  1. wow, there's alot of Gay-bashing going on here... ;D
  2. They did against Navy, which is why I am saying Notre Dame is the ultimate perpetrators of contradiction. They absolutely have no physical connection to Ireland other than their athletic name and mascot- which was chosen by people more for the blend of early student bodies.  It's a real oddity.  They were founded by French Priests, that were connected to Roman Catholicism, not Irish who came to teach more about their secular thinking among the church about the Virgin Mary (remember in the Catholic Church, and christianity in general, the treatment of Mother Mary has been a point of centuries old consternation).  There was a time pre-Vatican II where they didn't have ANY statues of Mary, and were careful not to over-state her significance.  The significance of Jesuit Catholics missionaries throughout America incited their trip.  At this time Jesuits were more Vantican centric and very anti-Madonna, which has since changed. The game of BC v. Notre Dame has Catholic significance in that BC is Jesuit, and ND is not.  I doubt it has the same significance today, but there was a time when it would split Catholics. Wow... and rumor has it SDSU has nothing to do with Aztecs either!
  3. Since the Birmingham Bowl seems a likely scenario for us, does anyone know about the rest of the festivities surrounding it? Right now BirminghamBowl.com is no help. Will there be a FanFest? Pep Rallies? Parade? Anyone know?
  4. These statements always amuse me. The team and coaching staff obviously can't afford to over look Syracuse, or anyone. As fans, we don't cost anyone anything by looking wherever on the schedule we please.
  5. 4. We have to settle for Rutgers' sloppy seconds instead of popping Louisville's... record. 5. If we should lose at the Pepperoni Palace, there are now no redeeming qualities (i.e. the chance at a big east team in the NC game)
  6. Shame for the Cards... straight from being undefeated into a 2 game skid.
  7. Well...that's not hard to do when the Big East has the most non-conf games of any conference (FIVE)...and almost ALL of those games were against non-ranked teams. Believe UL was the only team to play a non-conf game vs a ranked team (Miami at the time). When one can go 4-1 or even 5-0 in non-conf play...one only needs to win 1-2 Big East Games to be eligible. Yup, sure thing, Knight_Light. The Ohio State wasn't ranked at all when Cincy played them. :
  8. Perhaps you have not heard of Purdue (IN), Notre Dame (IN), Clemson (SC), La Tech (LA), La-Lafayette (LA), LA-Monroe (LA), or Arkansas State (AR). ;-)  [There are not very many states with only one I-A team... I think the list is Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Jersey, Maryland, & Connecticut.] Also, I think you're a bit off if you think that just because you live close by you should be a fan.  How many Yankee fans are there in Tampa Bay with the Devil Rays here? a[ch8231]skance[ch8194] /[ch601][ch712]skæns/ –adverb 1. with suspicion, mistrust, or disapproval: He looked askance at my offer. 2. with a side glance; sidewise; obliquely. â€â€Synonyms 1. skeptically, suspiciously. Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.0.1) Well said, even without turd references. ;-) You can scratch Maryland... don't forget the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. MA only has BC though. And MO only has Mizzou.
  9. We NEED to win this game. As was said beore, if we can't win this, we don't deserve a bowl game. Further, if we should lose that and then beat Louisville and/or WVU, all of what would have been national praise will now be qualified with "...but they lost to Syracuse."
  10. Bummed that USF did not make it, but pleased that UNCG did, and both the men and women will be starting tournament action this weekend, with the men being at home against VT.
  11. My thoughts exactly. I always display my bull palm out. Palm in to me is usually reserved for Sigmas or "Rock on!"
  12. I wonder if Meineke would go for a Murlin battle (Navy vs. College Park) in their bowl game. Terps, after all, travel fairly well, particularly to NC (shoulda seen the ACC tourney here in Greensboro) and it gives an angle to work with. On the other hand, they both played each other last season in the regular season at Naptown and other possible candidates include Wake and Clemson from right at home in the Carolinas. Miami and Florida State are also possibilities... wonder how they'd love to be going to a bowl that the Bulls were in last year. Who'da thought those two would be getting our sloppy seconds? ;D
  13. Wasn't last year's Louisville game on national TV? Not national, unless it was on ESPNU, because I remember watching the GameCast updates instead of the actual game.
  14. That's a salty comment if I ever saw one. What's the dill with that comment?
  15. That would be great. At the very least, the should have a center field logo we can go stomp on
  16. I bet that'll be where we see most folks--if families are in town for Family weekend, or if young alums who still know folks in school are coming back for Homecoming, they will likely go the route of the student companion tix.
  17. 'Fraid not. The Bulls will march into the Pepperoni Palace and steal their hopes and dreams.
  18. Amen. I look for what's best for the conference and our conference mates ONLY after we get ours first or "ours" is no longer an option. And "ours" doesn't stop being an option until the final buzzer sounds on 11/25 in Mo'town.
  19. I think last year was writting off as a fluke, but when we beat Loovul this year, especially in the House that Pizza Built, we'll start hearing folks say things like "it looks like this young South Florida team owns the Cardinals!"
  20. That's a great story, both in the content itself and how it was written and presented. I remember having checked Tennessee Tech's website for the rest of that season for updates on Drew after having witnessed that hit. I'm so so glad to hear he is doing as well as he is.
  21. If USF wins out, I saw we crack top 25 after the WVU game, end at low teens after the bowl win.
  22. I remember having read a similar story in the Chronicle last year regarding a Notre Dame burial. EDIT: That was about offering graduates plots in campus cemeteries at a few universities.
  23. 1. No. 2. No. The only Bulls Hoops I expect to make this year are men at WSSU on Dec. 7 and (hopefully) women in the tourney in Philly on Dec. 28 & 29. And I'll keep hoping our women make it to the tourney, win the first 2 rounds, and seeded in the Greensboro regional on the way to a national championship 8-)
  24. I'm rooting for WVU, because I want to see a BE team in the NC game. Of course, it would be nice for Louisville to win and then they've got a shot, only to be schooled in the Pizza Palace by the Bulls. :-)
