  1. Yeah, lets trade heavy draft picks and so on for a coach who proceeds to WIN A SUPER BOWL AND DIVISION TITLE, then when he needs a small amount of time to rebuild a roster and solidify a new QB, FIRE HIM. It makes TONS of sense to fire a coach with a WINNING all time record and SUPER BOWL RING with YOUR TEAM. Actually, I hope Tampa Bay does can Gruden. Then they can get all new coaching staff, a new system, and draft erraticly. That would be great for my Philadelphia Eagles, one less playoff team to worry about. Let's put it this way: Firing Gruden would be stupider than firing Schotty, a move that about 80% of people think was a bad idea. What exactly is the knock on Gruden? He can't win with an EXTREMELY spotty QB and a team plagued by injury? If the Steelers pulled crap like this they wouldnt have made the playoffs 2 years ago, let alone added a ring. I don't get why this is even being considered an option. If you're not playing madden and willing to buy Bill Belichick off the Pats, this would be one of the most ridiculous firings ever, and we've already seen one in the past week.
  2. I don't know, just about everyone here screws up grammar. I do sometimes. Some do it really badly, spelling common verbs wrong or using the wrong word! The only people on here that aren't guilty of this are those "one post wonders" who managed a grammatically correct post. Hell, you didn't even capitalize his name. This game will be a measuring stick. I'd like to see us win it, and if we do I'll be extremely impressed with both the players and staff. After all, we've had a tendency to flop miserably in early season road games. This is even more the case vs the SEC. On top of this, AU doesn't suck. It's likely they'll have more depth, so USF probably needs a decent lead early. Forcing AU out of the run game or minimizing it would help tremendously. When you're short depth, you play to avoid showing it. Being able to nickel and dime them and force their QB to press is ideal. So how does USF stop that offense from gaining momentum? Ask Leavitt and the new coaches. If I knew anything beyond basic playcalling I'd be making alot of money. Smart money says we should go easy on blitzing and forcing our younger LB's to play their assignments alone though. The thing I want to see LEAST is some stupid crap where a LB we're breaking in bites on a play fake, giving up a slant that goes for a TD because of all the room the WR had to shake a safety. Well, I guess that's tied with early turnovers.
  3. Not a good question. The ONLY way we will get RJS filled is by winning consistently. There are very few teams, college or otherwise, that can field a loyal fanbase year in and year out with poor play. It is for this reason that I have quite a bit of respect for recent cleveland browns, detriot lions, and arizona cardinals fans. There's nothing we can do about it. Being "humiliated" by poor attendance in a BCS bowl/NC is better than every single option other than having that stadium rocking with our fans. No reason to ask the program to slow down for its fans. The fans will catch up sooner or later, sooner if we win said conference championships.
  4. well today we finished well because Louisville had a 30 pt lead that they could sit on. I don't like it either, but it's better than the players just quitting entirely.
  5. Oy, I'm torn between being slightly offended and totally not caring. This is the media we're talking about. The media is good for one thing, and that's using it. I usually use it to kill time, if that. Surely, some editor's opinions on what's important in papers I don't read are pretty low on my priority list. USF has managed some publicity lately. If this weren't the case, I wouldn't see 2x the students walking around in USF gear that I saw when I came here.
  6. I'm not familiar with that software. That forum also mentions http tunnelling, anothing thing I'm not familiar with. I run a basic router at home, and even with that I can severely hinder certain kinds of pages and traffic. I mostly don't care what my roomates use, unless they get overzealous with kazaa or gnutella or something(this lags horribly and historically has forced me to block ports to get the performance I want etc.). The one piece of advice I can give you is similar to the above. According to what I've read, the software you're trying to bypass keeps a fairly good log of those, updating them kind of like a virus program would. There might be a way to get your home computer to deliver the data to the computer in question. It's a little late and I'm tired, and anyone here is welcome to correct me if I'm wrong or this is impossible, but ip blocking softfare would probably not filter out a home ip address. I will admit myself I've never heard of "remote internet connection sharing," but then again I've never had cause to look for how one might manage it, so who knows.
  7. This isn't 1976. You're sorely mistaken. How many BE titles does Pitt have in the last 10-15 years? One, off an 8-4 season tiebreaker? And recruiting doesn't mean ANYTHING after a certain ranking. What's the difference between #25 class and #40 class? Maybe one 4 star recruit. BS. If you're not in contention for a top 10 or so class, don't even worry about it, it's meaningless then. USF is getting there. Be patient.
  8. I ONLY wear USF underwear. That's it. I make my own. Pressing the shield logo onto the backs of tighty whities is impressive, and it works wonders with the ladies. Of course, the "U" also needs to be strategically located. I have trouble with the boxers though, especially since most are colored. If you go with patches, they're kind of stiff...not ideal material. I had to learn how to sew just to get cloth versions on...what a mess. I don't go with the "U" very much on boxers of course, because it's harder to sew. Shield all the way baby. The shield is also "strategically located" in this case. I sent Peyton Manning a spare pair of mine. That's obviously why they won.
  9. Recruiting rankings are garbage. Maybe the top 10-20 ranked teams have some basis, after that all the ranks up to 75+ are pretty iffy. Don't waste your time worrying about it. This isn't the draft.
  10. roar? BULLS roar? If you can come up with something more accurate that doesn't sound stupid, feel free to contribute. More on topic...congrats.
  11. Two reasons: 1. Doing this at a game won't change anything. Boosters !@#$ing at the AD seems to be what really gets the ball rolling, that and the team losing in humiliating fashion. Those things have MUCH bigger impact than the crowd, which if it acts negatively will generally just discourage the players, not that the players should care about anything but playing to potential on game day anyhow, but still. 2. There is a fine line between becomming a negative atmosphere and becomming a Cleveland Browns fan, and nobody wants to see that. However, if you really do I think I have some beer bottles, cups, old shoes, old food, and a tire iron you can throw onto the court. Just try not to hit people you like.
  12. Sagarin can't take into account the all mighty "due factor" (as in this team is due for a win or loss, etc) and "sports betting owns your ass", so it's clearly flawed, just like the polls.
  13. Jeez, maybe I should try out too with all the "tryouts" that are going to happen on this board. I'm 6'0" 190. I just need to...um... get my 40 yard time down from 4.8 to 4.3. That's possible, right? : The other alternative is to put on 35-40 pounds of mostly muscle while "only" dropping my 40 time to 4.6. Cake.
  14. Not everyone can win. By definition, it's impossible. I find it interesting, very interesting that people act extremely cut-throat without realizing it. Every time you want a guy to win at a sport, you want that team to win at the expense of the other team and coach. On some levels, it's still just a game. However, when careers and futures are on on the field/court, that line between what is a game and what isn't becomes pretty thin. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with cheering for a team. However, some people don't seem to realize that they're also hoping for the failure of others simultaneously. I personally don't have a problem with these events within the realm of sports, since it is an undertaking entered willingly. Still, it's interesting to me. As for winning, USF basketball isn't consistently. We've all seen the outcomes of recent years. It's not like the shortcommings are a secret. However, since college football and basketball are essentially businesses now, let's look at it from that perspective shall we? Will the benefits of pulling Mac early exceed the costs? If Woolard thinks so, he will do it. If he doesn't, he won't. Factors such as replacements available, how this season ends, and of course the amount of money USF has at its disposal will come into play. My gut feeling is that if Woolard gets ANYTHING out of Mac this season, he lets him finish the contract. Right now, USF is mainly a football school, so there is less pressure over a bad BB team here than there would be at UConn, UNC or Duke. If there aren't any good candidates out there that USF would want to buy this contract out for, it would make sense to wait. Even if you favor pulling Mac (which I do as well if it is within our budget), you have to admit that if some badass coach becomes available a year later but we hired someone new at the end of this season, we'd regret it. You just can't be 100% no matter what on these things. There's always some luck. I hope it shakes out well.
  15. Trick play? Change of positions? Be more creative.
  16. only people that dont do well in star ranking recruiting call it ignorant i guess when you dont have facts on your side you call names windbagne There are too many schools that do well despite signing lots of 2 star players, and too many that scrape their way to 7-8 wins despite having 4 star average talent, whatever that is. It's meaningless. It's just a way to sell more stuff to the masses. Good coaches know who the good players are and go after them. The media just tries half-assedly to keep up, usually proclaiming whoever name schools go after to be the best recruits, regardless of whether that is reality. I could probably make equally accurate recruiting rankings myself. Just give me some 40/shuttle/weight stats and what school is recruiting a player, and I can cough you up some stars the same way. Money.
  17. Smith was QB coach for Blackwell's FINAL season only. We had one good year of QBing with Grothe, and 3 bad years in a row with other players smith had his hands on. Maybe it was just impossible with Julmiste, who knows. I was all over rod for certain playcalls and our offensive execution in general. Even now, much of the offensive execution problems are justifiably pinned on him in retrospect, although he isn't the total !@#$ I thought he was. Still, you are reaching quite deep up your !@# to call him one of the great young coaches. He has done little to prove THAT. One of the biggest and most overlooked things about coaches is how they get their players to execute. It doesn't take 4 years to do that typically, it isn't like recruiting talent. He's right around or below average in my book, so whatever.
  18. Everyone loves the backup. It's still a talented team for sure. I expect a dip in the UL performance next season, mainly because it is typical for almost any first year coach to lose a game or two because the players aren't at 100% with the system yet. UF last year is a good example of this. Hiring from within can help prevent this, although that is only viable when the coordinators are good enough/better than other options. Kragthorpe is a good coach and he's proven it. UL will stay a strong football school, but don't expect a 1 loss season next year. I'd guess that UL goes either 9-3 or 8-4 next season, although I haven't looked too carefully at the OOC schedule for you guys yet. That's just a knee jerk guess due to the loss of a great QB and a change in the system (even if its slight, it matters).
  19. Colley is a pretty good one. I don't know what's going on with the Wolfe poll. Overall computer polls are actually more likely to be objective than humans. If I were a player I'd put more stock in the colley matrix than either the AP or USA Today polls. Ratings based on nothing but wins. Even SOS based on wins. At the start of the year, the rankings look all funny because of the few games played. By the end, its about as accurate as you can get with so few games played per number of teams there are. Interestingly, Colley had UF ahead of OSU even going into the NC game. I thought that was kind of odd then, but not so much now I suppose.
  20. I've always been a realist, but I dislike basketball. Sorry I can't help here. OK FINE. I think we should win more often than we do. How's that? I don't actually know where UL stacks up this year. It's cool when our players win at any sport, but this one just annoys me, so I don't follow it. Consider me a darksider just in that I feel that if we can't have a decent year this season and maybe even a winning rec next, we need a new guy. He's been at it a while now, in another year or two there will be no excuses at ALL.
  21. I was thinking we could use a few more water girls. Also, the cheerleaders and sundolls both should be cloned so that there are 6 of each squad on the field. The officials could use an upgrade too. I suggest using popular actresses who are individually convinced as to why USF should win every game. Oh yeah, and the stadium security position. Rather than some good people and some aholes who are just out to ruin our time, I suggest we leave the good people, fire the aholes, and instead use a professional masseuse for each bullspen member. Of course, after this is implemented there will be a fee to join the bullspen.
  22. I might still be a student (graduate school this time). It depends on that!
  23. The scout group hasn't bothered to re-evaluate Carlton which is why the one-star. He was a four star in HS with both networks, didn't do anything to doubt his abilities in JC, so regardless what they rank him as we all know what type of athlete he is and worthy of four stars if graded properly. I've got some stars on my ceiling. Recruiting evlauations are garbage, and even moreso when they are based primarily on the fact that big name schools are recruiting someone. Part of the emergence of new schools who didn't have the recruiting rankings is because those schools evaluated talent better. Every year I hear something along the lines of "this guy only had offers from this 1-a school and a couple 1-aa's, and look at him now". Look at him now indeed. These players often wind up as conf. players of the year or award winners. They proved they were underrated and that many big time schools and magazines have piss poor evualuations too often. If every 1-a school had perfect recruiting rankings to follow, there would be very, very few top teams. Those teams would almost never fall out of the top 20, and nobody else could make it in.
  24. Who knows what the implications for his future are, but this can't be anything but a positive sign. It's definitely better than him NOT being given the offer. He now has more chances to prove himself, and he just may do so.
