  1. How about this? Ultimately, a coach is responsible for how the men he puts on the field play. I've seen coaches fired because key players got injured and it cost the team games. You want to keep Rod because the PLAYER dropped it? What kind of accountability is that? Why not just let me coach? I would never be wrong by your logic! After all, the one throwing the pick wouldn't be ME. The one missing blocks wouldnt be ME either. That said, we need to replace rod with a QUALITY OC, at the END of the season. If we fail in either of those regards, it's going to hurt the team.
  2. I'll finish this post for the OP. Grothe.... Needs to heal his nose and bounce back.
  3. No, No, No That is an NFL rule not NCAA Why is it a rule at all? What if a QB gets his wind knocked out and the backup goes down? It would be total horse!@$# if the guy couldn't come back in after getting his wind knocked out. Probably a 1/100000 chance, but seriously...why should putting in a 3rd string guy be any different than putting in the 2nd? What if a coach wanted to implement some kinda running QB into his scheme (hard to imagine in the NFL, but there's no reason to make it illegal). NFL QB's are protected well enough by the officials without obscure, almost never matters types rules like this. The call on that sack of gradkowski is proof of that. It was a REALLY iffy call, almost as if the refs called "personal foul, sacking the QB instead of pulling his flag, 15 yard penalty". The lack of solid or even decent QB's in the NFL is starting to show. You don't see them making rules to protect receivers on crossing routes. These ridiculous rules must be to keep what few quality QB's there are left in the league longer....
  4. I dont like that stat at all, makes me think our defense isnt as good as we all thought. I wonder what our turnover margin was in those games. I'm reminded of earlier road games @SEC schools and such. If your D is good statistically, and yet you're giving up too many points, that points field position. Unless we've just been giving up punt return TD after punt return TD, this can be traced to two things: PENALTIES AND TURNOVERS.
  5. Yup, I see USC losing to Notre Dame... I also see Florida beating Auburn in the SEC Championship... I see Louisville beating Rutgers... I see Clemson beating Georgia Tech in the ACC Championship... I see Texas beating Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship... I see Boise State winning out... Reading tea leaves can be a challenge... I could be wrong on some or all of these... Nebraska/Mizzou upset special in teh bit XII title. Clemson should indeed take the ACC. Will Ga Tech beat Miami? I'm not sure. Normally I'd favor Ga Tech this season, but coming off a loss like that to Clemson, and Miami essentially resting all it's thug starters via a suspension, Miami could take it. I say Clemson gets Miami in the title and wins it though. Boise wins out most likely. Arkansas is underrated and is far ahead in the west race right now. They can lose a game or so and still make the championship. They'll be a fun game for UF, which I think will win the SEC even though I hate them. Finally, I dont understand the ND upset call. Not only is it @USC, but ND has shown horrible defense all year. I don't like it, but USC has a very decent shot at the title. I'd say its a 50-60% chance they get in. They still need to get by cal and ND, but both are at home. If they don't drop a road trap, they'll make it. After all, either michigan or OSU HAVE to lose.
  6. We need Cuse to beat Cincy, us to beat Cuse, and neither cincy or Cuse making eligibility. If all that jazz happens, we can back our way into a bowl. Otherwise, better take out Pitt too.
  7. We get to 7-5, or we don't get one. Of course, if we manage to do better we'll make one too. 7-5 should do it, but that means beating one of Pitt, UL, and WVU and not laying an egg vs Cuse. Possible? I'd say it's a coin flip right now. I'll be watching...
  8. Can anyone say "inconsistent reporting"???? : It's true that it's not very clear. However, I would "pull" almost any player that was hurt like that. It's hard to throw the ball with getting all over the place (worst of all in the eyes).
  9. I hate the spread. People overrate it, it's certainly no better than any other offensive scheme, other than maybe the old school wing t or something. WVU uses a fullback. Our spread is not comparable to those of UF, UT, or WVU. WVU is particularly different because they run the ball way more than they pass it. What I don't understand is why any school uses the spread if the NFL doesn't. You'd think that whatever works at the highest level is likely to be workable at lower levels. Not only that, it gives you a recruiting pitch based on them learning how the pro's operate. Sure, Texas won a NC with the spread. However, what offensive set did the 5 NC winners before use? It wasn't the spread. 2001 Miami and 2004 USC had particularly unstoppable offenses.
  10. Leavitt has only minimal control over actual offensive execution. This was disappointing indeed. Season isn't over yet, but before we become a premier program, we HAVE TO BECOME A BETTER ROAD TEAM. The worst member on our football staff is probably Rod Smith. However, just like in fantasy football, you don't drop him until you can get something better there. However, in the real world it also has to be something you can afford. Dragging somebody up from lower ranks is a risk, and there isn't a ton of big names that would want to be our O coordinator. It's not as easy as picking up a phone and dialing spurrier to magically become OC.
  11. Is any school using the middle finger yet? It's practically tradition to use it in RayJay already, given the number of penalties. Classssy.
  12. Dude, I never suspend anyone of any offense in NCAA, and my team has never gotten on probation. I recruit the meanest, dumbest mofo's on the game and still haven't been able to get on probation. It IS possible. I sometimes sim seasons screwing around, and once in a rare while I'll get put on probation. Every school starts out with an "ncaa interest" rating. For a school like air force, it's pretty low. For miami, southern cal, ohio state, and a few others, there's less breathing room. Punishing players brings it down, doing nothing will cause it to go up. As it gets higher, the % chance the NCAA whoops your a$$ goes up.
  13. Actually most heisman winners usually see at least a few years in the NFL. The only exception is the QB position, where it is rare. Even so, Carson Palmer at least broke that trend. Jury is still out on leinart, although it's really hard to judge a hapless guy drafted by the cardinals. While most heisman winners ARE a bit overrated for the NFL, most have decent contributions. Hell, even the overrated ron dayne has contributed to teams he's ben on. I'm fairly certain that Nicholas gets drafted top 4 rounds. Kiper has him as 13th best LB or something preseason. IIRC, that would put him about 3rd round.
  14. No way. Unlike the ACC, they still have an undefeated team, and several competent 1 loss teams. I'd say they're neck and neck with the BE, edge BE right now thanks to our OOC play (and better cellar teams). PAC-10 is constantly underrated, I would NOT want to go out there and play oregon, USC, cal, or UCLA if I were in charge of a team.
  15. I'm a Mariner kid (go tritons), and so seeing Ft. Myers in the title got my attention. As a few have stated, stevie tomato's is the only sports bar that advertised as I recall. I wasn't too into college sports back in high school, and I've either been in Miami or Tampa since. Oh wait. There's a possibility that the Alehouse carries the game too. You might want to call and ask, since the chicken nachos there are just that good.
  16. Route huh? You must be seriously WR inclined. Still, I am pleased about the improved passing game. Here's hoping the rushing game stays good, and it wasn't just good because UNC isn't.
  17. 5-0 1% 4-1 5% 3-2 10% 2-3 26% 1-4 40% 0-5 18% 5-0 95% 4-1 1% 3-2 1% 2-3 1% 1-4 1% 0-5 1% There. Anything can happen, so no matter what I'm not technically wrong.
  18. Didn't Leavitt call Voodoo 5? You got to give football coaches credit. The cover for their underlings, which is unlike upper and middle management at corporations. If Leavitt was a Senior Vice President at USF Bulls Corp. (fictional company), he would have thrown Director Rod Smith under the bus by blaming him and firing him to apease the stockholders. Maybe Larry Coker should apply for a management position at Microsoft.
  19. They shouldn't whine, or else they should split up and throw in a couple Troys and ECU's that would LOVE their opportunity. I'm all for a playoff system, but I think the SEC is overrated because of its names. Cincy just played UL tough. That was a surprise. Vandy beats UGA, and its "the SEC is so tough". Can it. Quit ********, shut up, and play. It's not like other teams from other conferences havent been screwed out of a chance thanks to the system, yet nobody cries like the SEC.
  20. I don't think we can see a ranking unless we get to 7-2...but even then we'll probably be hosed out of one and get stuck in the ARV category at #30 or so. If we're 8-2, we'd have to be ranked. Yes, that does mean winning every single game from here on out until the UL game. That's a tall order, because most of the teams we play are at least decent, if not good. Some are on the road, too. Not impossible with ponton/julmiste back and a new kicker though. We'll have to see.
  21. #1 for FIU was holding back. He could have beaten the entire Miami bench alone. ;D This was about as bad as I've seen. 13 suspended for it. I'm sure it has something to do with a lot of these guys knowing each other, but it's still inexcusable.
  22. We also got FSU. Admittedly, I can see THAT confusion. People doing the ACC must be fairly used to FSU beating up on the Tarheels, and with FSU being down this year perhaps they thought they switched colors for a spark? Seriously. I've said this before, but these guys are being payed to do this job. They're "pros". They should be able to handle the basics, yet can't. People getting payed for that job should be getting the mascots of UC Davis and Trinity community college correctly if they're calling their games. What ever happened to professionalism? Saaaad.
  23. Not to be confused with the greatest 0-6 team of 2 years ago, right?
  24. Honestly after #1 the next 3 teams are all a coin flip on a neutral sight this year, IMO. Miami and FSU both have slightly better D's and slightly worse O's. They've fallen alot further than we've risen in the past 2 years, although I do like our progress. But the canes i remember when I went there in 2001 seems like a very distant memory now. Remember, the 49'ers used to be a dominant team for many years, too.
