  1. This is good and bad. Remember what Rutgers did to Louisville on Thursday night last year. They will be fired up and looking to avenge the pasting USF put on them last time wthey were in Piscataway. Anyway - love the National exposure.
  2. Dadgummit, tampajo, now that makes sense!  Why do so many of us have a hard time grasping the bottom line? I know, I know, E=MC2, and therefore, Robert McCullum is a good head coach.  And that's a great argument....it really is. But tampajo may just be on to something here.  Wins and losses to enter into the evaluation process.....just a tad. What was it, 7 wins last year and already 11 this year. There is progress. He has brought in some better talent and fixed Seth's mess and instilled discipline. If he can land a couple of bigs, then there is even more hope. I'm willing to give him more time.
  3. After reading this entire thread I'm very curious why no one pays attention to this description of our class.  It's good. Because, unfortunately, most people don't have a clue. Normal, great job - you are 100% correct!
  4. Either Alvarado or Petrov should get another chance at punter this Spring. I hope one of them shows enough to win the job, as both punt the conventional way. I agree that the rugby style is what caused the 30 yard net - no time to get downfield and cover with no hang time. The Defense will be fine, especially if McKenzie gets his waiver.
  5. [smiley=roflmao.gif] The fact that someone other than RMC believes this line is hilarious! Yes, indeed......South Florida and our coach is so good, in fact, that they won't even qualify for the conference tournament.  Now THAT is what I call good. My oh my......it's like trying to argue with someone who insists the sky is green. This quote was an unsolicited opinion from a coach of a top 25 team right after they escaped with a win versus USF. The context of the quote was that he has much respect for coach Mac and the way his team plays. Tom Crean knows coaching, so does Jim Calhoun, and both guys gave unsolicited endorsements of CRM. Say what you will, but there are no other motives behind those quotes other than respect. We all want USF to win, but it doesn't happen overnight. Mac is making progress, and let's see if it continues to progress. This instant gratification mindset today from fans is sickening.
  6. Quote from Tom Crean, Marquettte coach, from Greg's blog - "I can’t say enough about how good South Florida is, how good a coach (McCullum) is.â€Â
  7. Y'all are brutal. Give outrunner a break. I played Ultimate a couple of times for fun at USF many years ago. It's a good game. I was good at it because it was a lot like basketball to me, with having to cut and move a lot to get open.
  8. Gregory was OC from 2001-2003. 2001: 18.0 ppg. 240 rushing ypg, 74.5 passing ypg. (24.38ppg in conference) 2002: 24.9 ppg. 239 rushing ypg, 87.4 passing ypg. (30.13ppg in conference) 2003: 21.9 ppg. 183 rushing ypg, 154 passing ypg. (24ppg in conference) Scout says Gregory's Ohio teams averaged 32 ppg during these years. Who's wrong?
  9. Anyone else see the irony in the misspellings in the title of this thread? Hilarious.
  10. I wish I had known him. He sounds like a special person.
  11. Again, Greg Gregory was 100% as co-offensive coordinator this year. Full game planning and play calling.  I'll just make it simple on you, because I am not going to debate further you give your man love to Smith...but given that the ONLY time Smith's output on offense was good since 2002, was when Greg Gregory was working right beside him gameplanning and calling the plays.  SO, Greg deserves just as much of the credit. Oh, and this working for, or working with Pat White is a promotion is a joke.  Clearly you're a young man that hasn't experienced the real world, but I can promise you carrying the water for someone that does all the heavy lifting is not a promotion. I hadn't heard that before, but it does make sense since our offensive playcalling did improve drastically in 2006.
  12. Don't know if anyone was watching the very end of the East-West Shrine Game, but Andre Ware and Bob Davie were taking about programs to watch out for next year. Andre Ware called USF a "ticking time bomb waiting to happen down there at South Florida" and mentioned the great job CJL is doing, and that they are now starting to get some great recruits. More USF love!
  13. Did he look good against McNeese?  He was only in for 1 play when he tore his ACL. I guess it was over a 5 yard gain on that one play, so he has a good average for his career YPC. I guess I didn't see enough of him to say he looked good.  I heard he was pretty electric in practice. Plancher was injured in the first SERIES, not the first CARRY.  He had like 5 carries in the first series before tearing his ACL and looked pretty good, but hard to really tell. AWESOME NEWS ABOUT FORD!  WELCOME TO THE USF FAMILY, MIKE! Just checked the stat line. 4 carries for 26 yards What, you didn't believe me? Actually, I just watched the replay of that game the other day, specifically to remind me of how Plancher looked.
  14. I'm with you. I don't suggest we should abandon the shotgun, but just add more sets with Grothe under center, particularly on first down. Lets establish Ford, get those safeties up, and then run some play action on first down and have Grothe go over the top to Amarri for 6! The juices are flowing already!

  16. Here's my favorite part of the Mike Ford article - "I'm excited. I want to do big things at South Florida."
  17. Mike Ford alone doesn't mean Big East Champs next year, but it sure won't hurt! I'm salivating thinking of a backfield with Ford, Plancher, and Ponton to compliment Grothe. Here's how I see next year shaping up: QB- Grothe needs to stay healthy and Gregory develop into a reliable backup. RB - 3 headed monster until Ford gets his legs. WR- No woories about Jackson, Johnson, Edwards, and Amp Hill. Look for Hester, Carlton Hill, and maybe Mitchell to break through. TE and FB- need a few guys to step up. Not a huge part of the offense, so if there is an area of concern, let this be it. OL- Need to develop some more quality depth. Hopefully add 2 FR tackles. Starting 5 is solid and Tolley and Griffin are solid backups. DL-This could be the strength of the team. Selvie and Julmiste were unstoppable late in 2006. Add Robinson back into the mix at DT with experienced Cray, Clebert, and George. The line is deep and talented. LB- Moffit is the man. Looks like McKenzie will join him which is awesome. That leaves Robinson to hold off numerous other young studs. This unit is deep with talent, although a little short on experience. CB-Lockdown City with Williams and Jenkins. Quality depth. S- I look for Gachette to emerge as SS, if not then Allen. We should be fine here. In short, this team should have plenty of depth to overcome most injuries, and is solid just about everywhere. Looks like a Big East Title contender to me. Can't wait for next year!
  18. I keep getting an error message when I try to read them. Maddening.
  19. I agree - what a day! Jenkins back for SR year, Mike Ford coming at RB, C4 coming back at WR. Still 1 1/2 hrs left until midnight - plenty of time for Marve to commit!
  20. This is a good decision - for Mike and for USF Football. He can get his degree and also he will get all kinds of pub next year with Trae. His stock will only rise as he continues to improve and it will mean a bigger paycheck in the long run. Can't wait for next year!
  21. If he goes, good luck to him.  He may be giving up the chance at a better pay day next year though. Well said, Mama Bull.
  22. Jeez it's the type of offense we run.  Grothe wasn't expected to be the starter this year, and he will add more muscle and size by next year to handle the rigors of running.  A running QB has been the basis of USF offense for seven years- SURPRISE. The offense with the QB as a focal part of the running game has been run for 1 year - not 7. PJ ran some option and a little from the shotgun for 3 years. The previous year with Andre Hall, PJ spent a lot of time under center. Blackwell was not a running QB - they ran a spread and a heavy emphasis on the passing game. It was only last year that they put in the Texas/Missouri stuff. Why subject Grothe to more hits than necessary? Let the RB's take the responsibility for the rushing game. We have moved the ball on the ground before with McMillan and Hall. The reason Grothe ran so much this year was because Williams, a walk on, was our best back. Recruit a RB, and let Grothe throw.
  23. They put the Texas/Mizzou offense in last year. While the QB running has been part of USF's offense, this year it was a much bigger part to make the best use of the personnel. If the coaches are smart (and I think they are), they will reduce the amount of Grothe running next year. They need to find a running back who can take the pressure off Grothe to run, and keep Matt healthy to use his best assets - his arm and head.
  24. Jenkins needs to stay for his senior year. Think of all the publicity he will get along with Trae Williams next year. Those 2 corners will be hyped just like our Linebackers were this year. Both might be first team pre season all Big East (if Revis from Pitt goes pro). That could mean big $$$$ in the 2008 NFL Draft. Also, Jenkins could really use another year to get better. He needs more experience. He shouldn't take those bad pass interference penalties, like he did against ECU. He improved a lot this year and if he continues, he will be awesome.
