  1. Here's my guess: Offense WR  8  Johnny Peyton   Jr.  6-5  185 TE   84  Will Bleakley     Sr.  6-3  240 LT  55  Thed Watson    Sr.  6-5  295 LG  78  Mark Dile       So.  6-4  280 C   77  Jake Griffin      So.  6-4  300 RG  75   Walter Walker   Jr.  6-5  305 RT  72  Jerome Springfield  So.  6-9  320 WR  83  Jackie Chambers Jr.  5-11 185 WR     Amp Hill       Sr.  6-1  190 QB  4   Carlton Hill      So.  6-3  215 RB   5   Ricky Ponton    So.  5-8  215 K   35  Kyle Bronson    So.  6-0  190 Defense LE   46  T. I'm hoping Brouce makes a big impact next year, assuming Snake is gone.  The D backfield is loaded.  Jenkins might be better at safety, but I don't think there's room.
  2. I think USF's rush D will be fine. Rutgers has a very good offense and can both run and pass. That makes them tough to defend. Syracuse should be much easier to defend because they are one dimensional.
  3. With all due respect, Sheriff, this is a load of crap. How hard is is to follow the rules? In order to function in society, you have to follow rules all the time. If this kid is too immature to respect authority and follow the rules required for his participation on the team, then he needs to be given the boot. He will be better off in the long run. The problem is that too many kids like this have been spoiled because they are athletes. Everyone kisses their butts and tells them how great they are and that the rules don't apply to them. It is a priveledge to get a free education and play sports to represent your school, not an entitlement. 'Today's generation' doesn't need special treatment, they need a kick in the butt. I applaud Coach Mac for standing up for what is right.
  4. Bien (or anyone), How about Carl Franks? Does he have OC experience? I've got to think he would be a step up from Rod Smith.
  5. My point is that this program is so young. From nonexistent to 1-AA to 1-A to 1-A BCS conference in less than 10 years. That is unprecedented in college football history. You have to have some patience to allow the recruiting to catch up to the meteoric rise of the Program. I agree though that we need a new offensive scheme.
  6. Against Pitt, PJ was 18-35 for 222 yards, threw 1 TD and had no INT's. PJ is not the reason USF lost that game.
  7. No offense taken. But these are not excuses, they are facts. USF missed out on numerous highly touted QB's in the past few years - this is well documented. The talent is beginning to come - it is just very young. And with youth comes inconsistency. That is why you see the big win over UL and the the 'bad' loss to Pitt (which wasn't all that bad IMO). I absolutely agree with what you say about adapting the offense to the talent. I've been posting the same thing myself for years. Get the QB under center and run play action! And I did not say this was a rebuilding year. It is a building year. There is nothing to rebuild. The talent is improving, as is the level of competition in the Big East. It will take some time for the Freshmen to mature. I'm encouraged by what I see from the team this year. Before the season, 4-7 seemed a stretch. Now, I'd be disappointed if they don't go 6-5 and make a bowl. That is progress and will allow us to continue building towards the Big East Championship.
  8. Why can't some of you get it through your thick heads - PJ is the best we've got because USF couldn't recruit the talent needed at QB until now. The program was nonexistent less than 10 years ago. There was no football facility, or decent weight room. There were no conference ties to a BCS bid. There was no history or tradition at USF Football. How can you expect USF to compete in major recruiting circles with these obstacles? This era of 'instant gratification' makes me sick. Coming to this board after a loss and reading all the whining about PJ, the coaching staff, etc makes me sick. This is a building year. Anyone who thinks differently is misguided. There was a great, unexpected win over UL. There was a discppointing loss. There will be more. This is a young team. Have some freakin' patience. The future is bright.
  9. I hope to revive the uniform discussion - I love it! I mostly agree with Gary. Tradition is what it is all about. That doesn't mean I don't mind some subtle improvements. Love the iconic U and the new numbers. I would keep USF's current uni's with some minor changes: 1. Metro is right that the names on the backs of the jerseys need to be larger font. 2. Green on green for home. No changes here. 3. White on white for away. Just ban players from wearing high white socks and change to black cleats. The uni's will look great. 4. Absolutely, positively, and under no circumstances should any change be made to the uni's to make them look like Maryland, Denver, Miami, etc.! 5. The yellow-gold is different. Keep it. Build the Tradition!
  10. LOL! No love, but at least it's a response. I'll take it. I probably won't be picking against the Bulls much on the remainng schedule though.
  11. I think you will see the passing game open up in the 2nd half of the year. USF has seen the best defenses on its schedule already, and that should allow for the coaches to diversify a little. I still think Andre needs at least 25 carries per game though!
  12. My only complaint is that Smith should have been more conservative early in the game when USF was pinned deep in its own territory. Why would you let PJ throw downfield on third and long when UM are expecting pass? Call a draw play or something safe so there is no chance of a turnover.
  13. PJ threw poorly - no question about it. But the coaches playcalling didn't help him either. With the Bulls backed up in their own territory early in the game, the coaches should have been more conservative with the calls and not had him throwing downfield. If he had to throw, then maybe use some RB screens, WR screens, play action to the H-back in the flat - safe stuff like that. You have to assume PJ will be nervous going against UM on the road. A more conservative approach with bad field position would have helped USF stay in the game. With that said, I still think our coaches are doing a much better job this year.
  14. Congrats, Pingbull. I didn't have it exactly right, but can I get some love?
  15. This is my first visit to the message board since the Miami game, and I'm happy to see some intelligent discussion!  I was figuring I'd see a bunch of smazza-esque negative posts about how bad the Bulls still are.  Maybe I haven't read far enough yet
  16. Miami 31-10 312 Chambers Young Bulls believe all the hype from this week and play poorly. Miami scores 14 points off turnovers and Hester returns one for a TD.
  17. If USF finishes the season strong and plays in a bowl game, then yes. This team is still a year or two away in terms of developing its talent. It is still very young, and usually youth and inconsistency go together. If it finishes strong, then watch out in the years to come!
  18. Left off the list is Jay Gruden. He was the 1st to break Unitas' passing records at UL before Redman and others did.
  19. Dude, if you can't see that PJ is BY FAR better than Denson right now, then you don't know much about football. I have no idea why the coaches started Denson against Penn State. I think it cost USF the game. Glad to see they got wise in a hurry. PJ is the man - get used to it.
  20. I've been one of the few PJ supporters from the beginning, and agree that his performance has improved this year. However, he hesitated to throw too often against UCF and as a result scrambled a lot. I can't be sure whether the coverage was good, or he was slow to make decisions with the ball (I watched the game on TV and can't see the whole field). My guess is the latter. I'd love to see much more passing off of play action in the weeks to come. Pound Hall and Ponton up the middle, and then go deep off of play action. USF will need some big plays to beat UL and UM.
  21. If we're going to talk about the kicking game, how about the return game as well. Looks like every punt return was about 30 yards. Lets not just focus on the bad.
  22. Miami's D-Line is better than Penn State's. Also, Dumervil from Louisville didn't look too bad in week 1. I was real pleased with the O-Line play and am optimistic about the rest of the season.
  23. Gotta love this part - "South Florida will be big trouble in little time." ;D
