  1. I doubt Hill is a 'far better' runner than Denson at this point. Denson has worked significantly with the first team in Fall practice and gone through Spring practice too. Hill has done neither. I just don't see how playing Hill at QB against PSU is a wise move. If USF has to resort to having Hill take one snap at PSU, then the Bulls are in worse shape at QB than I imagined.
  2. Is Hill that much more athletic than Denson? I doubt it. Now this is only going on what I've read and looking at how they were rated out of HS. Haven't seen either play yet, so it remains to be seen. Denson was very highly rated and his ability to scramble and make people miss has been well documented. I don't think Hill will add anything that Denson can't do, and putting in a true Freshman who hasn't had many reps with the first team or even been through a Spring practice seems absurd. Remember that Hill played against weak competition in HS, and it is a big step up to the talent he will see at PSU. I say let him go through a Spring practice and prepare properly - don't just throw him in there - even if the package is limited. The only way this makes sense is that if CJL promised Hill playing time at QB this year to get him to sign.
  3. No way Carlton Hill takes any snaps at QB against PSU. If he does, our coaching staff should be committed. Hill is a true Freshman with little time working with the first team and is the same type QB as Denson. I see nothing to gain by playing him at QB.
  4. All these teams going to the Miami style uni's makes me sick. I can't believe Michigan is doing that - even if it is only slightly. I want to puke. USF and Wash State are the only teams that have any sense at all. I'm so thankful that USF didn't mindlessly follow the trends.
  5. One advantage that both King and Williams have over our potential impact newcomers is that they both graduated HS early and went through Spring practice with the team. I'd like to add to Bien's list - Tyller Roberts, Carlton Williams, and of course we can't forget Carlton Hill.
  6. I've heard Graber work with other play by play guys and he is good. The broadcasts are professional. GET RID OF AL KECK - HE STINKS!
  7. 1.  Rivals has Denson listed as starting QB with PJ as backup. 2.  D'Juan Brown is not listed on the 2-deep.  Why not? I don't know all the etiquite about what I should post or not post from these 'premium' boards, so I hope I haven't offended anyone.
  8. CJL's direct quote seems to refer to practice. The part about the PSU game says 'and/or' receiver and is not a direct quote. It is not practical to prepare 3 QB's for a game. I just don't see it happening. The things that Hill brings to the table are the same a that Denson does, so it doesn't make sense to me.
  9. Despite what CJL might have said, there is no way 3 QB's play at PSU (barring injury). PJ and Denson will play QB, and I figure Hill will see time at receiver. I just can't believe Hill will take a snap at PSU, or for that matter, any game this year.
  10. I'll do my best to fill in for smazza: usf would get trounced by minn anywae this is all levitt and jewelmists fault they shound both bne shot
  11. Please forgive my ignorance, but where is the photo gallery?
  12. Grothe is not even close to PJ in arm strength. I imagine he and Denson have similar arm strength, but I haven't seen Denson throw - just going by what I read. Grothe will be much better off to RS and work on arm strength, adding weight, etc. If he works hard to develop his physical tools to match his head and leadership ability, he will be awesome in 2 years when his time comes.
  13. I couldn't agree more.  Our Marketing Department is asleep at the wheel.
  14. Is JJ that good, or are the offensive tackles that bad?
  15. I am a member of Bullseye, and have been keeping up with the photos. I just can't tell how much these guys weigh from the pics. ;D That picture of Brouce is awesome. I'm looking forward to seeing him in action!
  16. Bien, I like what you have to say about Moffett. That is what the defense sorely needs. I hope the DL has beefed up and that those weights are real. Seems like published reports have a way of adding 10-15 lbs over what they weigh in reality. I agree that big isn't always better, but inexperience and undersized is a bad combination when facing Big East competition and OL's like WV, Pitt, Louisville. I'd feel better if Searcy and Chance were still here to provide depth. I'm just going to worry about the D until they show improvement on the field. I think the pieces are there this year for a return to form (Jones boys back), but until they show it, I'm still skeptical.
  17. Jim, I hope you are right, and think most of your analysis is sound, but I think you are overstating USF's talents and understating PSU's.  To say our DL is good and LB's are great is a stretch.  I've followed PSU for over 30 years having been born near Philly and know this team pretty well.  Robinson should have been QB for the last 2 years at PSU in my opinion.  He is a great athlete and has a good arm.  With the O Line troubles, he was a better fit back there than Mills who was a sitting duck.  Even if USF gets pressure on him, that may work to PSU's advantage since Robinson's running ability is a strength.  He has also made good strides in passing and was razor sharp in the spring game and is in great shape. I'm not sure USF's new tackles can block PSU's defensive ends.  I expect everyone at USF will know who Tamba Hali is after this game and he might spend as much time in USF's backfield as Andre Hall.  They rotate a bunch of good linemen and the USF O line had better be ready.  I will be disappointed if USF doesn't keep this game close well into the 3rd quarter, but I think there are too many question marks about this years Bulls to expect an upset in week 1. ÂÂ
  18. I hope that Moffett really has bulked up and entrenched himself. I'm going on what I saw last year, and there wasn't a MLB that I saw who could get off the blocks and get up in the middle and make some plays. I hoped Coleman could do that, and follow in the footsteps of Mitchell and Jones. If Moffett can do that, then that's fine by me. I'm just real concerned about the D up the middle. Depth and size at DT and MLB is a concern. For USF to get back to winning, the D really has to return to form. I was hoping Coleman was the real deal to complement Jones and Jones and give the D a big boost this year.
  19. I haven't seen Hill throw, but I hear he has a strong arm. All the video of him in HS shows him running all over the field. He's definitely an athlete. I did see Grothe play in HS, and he is pretty accurate, but not much zip on the ball past 25 yards. IMO he needs to redshirt and work on arm strength. I think he could be the guy in a couple of years because he has all the intangibles. He is tough, can run, throw on the run, and is a leader. I'd like to see Hill at WR and Grothe at QB.
  20. Are you crazy? Every MLB on the roster is undersized. There are a couple of decent players, but no real standout. Coleman had the size, motor, and mean streak necessary at MLB, from all published reports. We won't know for another year whether that is true, but assuming it is, this hurts BIG TIME.
  21. I would love to see PJ make major improvements because he gives us the best chance to win this year. If not, I don't care who plays QB as long as we win.
  22. These are the two most impressive things to take from that article.  Leavitt is such a good coach and class guy, we are lucky to have him.
  23. No comments about the numbers??? I'm torn - I like them embroidered and they look OK, but it looks too much like UAB to me.
  24. I think most PJ detractors are forgetting that the recievers have an awful lot to do with how good a QB looks. There is plenty of blame to spread around last year with passes that were right on the mark that were dropped, or receivers who ran wrong routes or just didn't get open. With PJ and the receivers all back, I expect an improved passing game. PJ will not turn into Matt Leinart, but if he has a 2:1 TD:INT ratio and completes 55% of his passes, the O should be pretty good. I just want to see marked improvement this year. This is a building year towards having this team ready to compete for Big East titles in 2006 and beyond.
