  1. I'm surprised to hear Nate Allen will play at safety this year. I considered that position to be pretty deep with Verpaele returning from injury.
  2. I agree with this, except I have big concerns about RB if Ponton gets hurt. No proven depth. I read good things about Plancher, but expect turnovers and poor pass protection from Freshmen RB's. This could hurt our offense IMO. Here's hoping Ponton stays healthy all year - this will be the key to our O.
  3. The year before last, we got Thed Watson, who Ole Miss wanted.
  4. This will do nothing to fix the system. What happens if the year plays out like last year with only one unbeaten remaining after the 4 bowl games? Would Texas have to play USC again to win the National Title?
  5. Anyone see Josh's segment who can update us out of towners?
  6. Those first 2 games may not be as easy as you think. McNeese St. is a quality program - perenially one of the best in 1AA, and FIU is getting better. With USF likely starting a Sophomore or RS Freshman QB, breaking in 3 new O-Line starters, and a stable of new RB's (except Ponton), I expect the play calling to be conservative. USF coaches will, and should be, worried about winning those games, not airing it out.
  7. My favorite part - "The character of the coach was a huge thing".
  8. This lousy Memphis uniform is another example of what USF must not do. WAAAAYYYY too many teams look like this. Disgusting.
  9. I'm not sure if Matt is ready yet, but that kid is a player. He is tough, smart, accurate on short throws, can run, is a leader, and a winner. Sounds like a good bet for starter to me. If he does start, expect some up's and down's as he adjusts to the college game, but I'd rather have up's and down's with a RS Freshman than a senior. P.S. I declare smazza to be null and void.
  10. Miami is a big time program with bush leage uni's. They never should have changed. I'm not opposed to some change for USF, but nothing drastic. USF needs to establish a tradition and look. They certainly don't need to use a Nike cookie cutter uniform like the 50 other programs that copied UM.
  11. I appreciate the uni's that have been posted here, but none of them are even close to what a "big time" program wears. They are bush league WAC looking uniforms. If USF needs to change, then I hope they go to a classic look, like Alabama. The current uni's are OK, just make small, subtle changes, IMO.
  12. The thing I hate about Nike is the "cookie cutter" looks. They had that horrendous different color sleeve thing last year that VT and UF wore, among others. A plea to Coach Leavitt, if Nike does USF's uni's, I'm begging you, PLEASE do not let them ruin them with some fancy, modern crap!
  13. B.S. Chemical Engineering 1992. Figured I'd get one on the board . . .
  14. With the win over GU, Coach now has 3 wins over top 25 teams in the last 12 months. USF never got 1 win over a ranked opponent in the previous decade. I'd like to see what he can accomplish with a full, healthy roster. Thanks to Doug Woolard, we will.
  15. Jim Calhoun, one of the best basketball coaches in the nation, calls Robert McCullum a "superior coach" and praises what he is building at USF, and smazza throws out some ridiculous lawyer analogy. Classic.
  16. The smazzas and Aris of the world crack me up with this 'low expectations' crap. I'm all for holding coaches accountable, but to be calling out Coach Mac after 2 years is ridiculous. Do you think he's had time to convince the top recruits to come to USF when he's selling an empty arena and no winning tradition? He needs time to build. It starts with hustle, heart, and defense. The Big East affiliation will help draw interest from better recruits, and the wins will start to come. Have some patience.
  17. I don't see this season the same way as most of you. I am shocked that this team has competed as well as it has against the Big East competition. I think Coach MAC has done a great job being competitive, given the talent level of his team. He just needs more time to bring in Big East caliber recruits, and he has shown evidence of that in next year's class. Have patience, and give him time. The wins will start to come.
  18. Smazza, the point isn't that Notre Dame has been playing football longer than USF. The point is that your expectations are out of whack if you think USF should currently be competing on the same recruiting level as them. USF has had a BCS conference affiliation for 1 year, is only a few years removed from 1-AA status, and is just making a name for itself in football. Notre Dame has tremendous history on its side. It is the only college with its own network TV contract so every game they play is televised, and probably 90% of the kids who play football at Catholic high schools schools across the US dream of playing football or the Irish. Norte Dame really doesn't recruit, they select. For you to use that analogy, you just prove that your football knowledge is minimal. But, hey, you make up for it in volume of posts. Give USF a couple more years and you will see the 4-5 star recruits start to come.
  19. Of all of smazza's idiotic posts, this may be the dumbest. How out of touch with reality do you have to be, smazza, to compare USF recruiting to Notre Dame! USF has not even had a program for 10 years, and you are comparing its recruiting to Notre Dame - the most storied, tradition rich program in college football history? You truely have no clue.
  20. Sheriff, Peyton's dismissal wasn't about talent, it was about attitude.  Grow up.
  21. I'm with you paisa.  It seems like lately this Board has turned soooooo negative.  Every thread strays off topic and turns into a PJ or Rod Smith or recruiting ranking bashing.  It's beginning to ruin the Board in my opinion. Maybe I should start a new thread for this, since I'm off topic too.
  22. Peyton is one of the few receivers who MAKES PLAYS. That's what it is all about. I'm not sure what his problem was this year, whether he was injured worse than reported, or if it was attitude or work ethic. I don't know. But if he gets his stuff together or gets healthy, he can seriously help this offense.
  23. He will not play at Missouri - remember the name Chase Daniel. He will replace Brad Smith next year and Grooms won't see the field at QB while Daniel is there.
