  1. True, those teams aren't world beaters, but we also didn't skim by winning in the last minute or anything. We beat Cuse by 21, SMU by 24, and UConn needed a real late TD to pull within 8. We beat the bad teams like a decent team should. And if you take Temple out of that group, then the other 3 are a combined 13-9, or just above .500, like us. Again, there's reason for optimism.
  2. GOOOOLLLLDDDDD!!!!! (Haven't been this excited about a game in a while - great to have that feeling back).
  3. Less than 5 hours away, the one nice thing about a nooner, and.... Says......GREEEEEEENNNNN!!!
  4. I'm hoping for a win, but my gut tells me the one win on the road here is going to be ECU, not Navy. The triple option can be like a good passing game, in that you can stop them, you can stop them, you can stop them, and then one missed tackle or assignment and its a big play/TD. I love the blitzes and defensive pressure we're bringing this year, but have seen too many missed tackles/poor tackling this year that has me worried for the Navy game. I think we can score on them, but think they might score more. Close, higher scoring, loss: I'd say 34-27
  5. This. Miami is still the better job, but what was a grand canyon like difference 5-8 years ago, is more like a small river valley now.
  6. Saw rumors of him as a possibility for UCF. Scoffed at them, but didn't realize he still had family in the area. Wouldn't like that hire for them (for us), him or Doc Holliday (and possibly Durkin) could have them turned around pretty quick. Hoping they go after Cristobal as I think he's highly overrated, and would be their Skip Holtz.
  7. I would agree that if we look to compare QF to any past QB, Grothe comes to my mind first as well. He just seems to have that gamer attitude, that despite some of his deficiencies, he's going to find a way to win the game, or put us in a spot to win. Grothe was great at that, and is why he's so fondly remembered. He wasn't necessarily the greatest passer, but his escapability and knack for making big plays when needed overshadowed that. QF isn't there yet, but you can definitely see some of that in him. This upcoming gauntlet will go a long way and showing how close of a comparison this is. If anything, its just refreshing to have discussions like this. I said coming into the season, that I just hope we can get back to Saturdays feeling like Christmas rather than having a feeling of dread (knowing a loss was coming). We may not win many of these next 4, but I'm glad we're at the point that we (or maybe just speaking for myself) feel like a win is possible any Saturday again.
  8. I'd love to believe that, but the lust after $$$ has already destroyed way too many rivalries in college football. The fact that we no longer get Nebraska v Okla, Texas v A&M, Pitt v WVU, Notre Dame v Michigan, Notre Dame v Mich St, Pitt v Penn St, etc...is truly sad.
  9. I agree with this. The only reason this would still be an issue (or really even was an issue in the first place) is because of someones delicate wanna be mafioso ego. If you would have polled 1000 people in Tampa when this happened, 95% of them (if not more) would have had no clue what you are talking about. If you pulled them right now, 99.99% would have no idea, or not care. Its a non-issue. If Gonzmart is carrying a grudge still over something a coach said in the heat of the moment right after one of his former players was killed, then he's a little man (would love to call him much worse, but I'm afraid to blow up the filter on this site).
  10. Leavitt to Miami might have more wings to it if Holcutt was still there, but he's at Texas Tech now, and I'd just imagine they'd have bigger targets than him.
  11. Was it during the on-side kick where we had to call a timeout? Looked like after the penalty and time to set up, we still weren't ready for the on-side.
  12. Its going to take til next season for the casual crowd to start coming back. Whats really disappointing is the student turnout. What the hell? Frats and Sororities should have had more people there alone than the total student turnout. After 2 straight wins, one at home, there should have been a lot more students there. Don't know what marketing is doing on campus, but something/someone needs to step it up for the Temple/Cincy games.
  13. I'm just glad I don't go through life like the way some of you curmudgeons do. When we beat Syracuse, it was "one game doesn't mean anything, beat UConn next week then we'll talk". When we beat UConn it was "two games is nothing, I want to see a trend, beat SMU, then we'll talk". Now that we beat SMU, its "well we should of beat those teams, do something against a decent team, then we'll talk". If we beat Navy next week, I'm sure it will be "well they play a gimmick offense, beat a team with a real offense, then we'll talk". Do you guys smile and enjoy anything in life, or do you permanently walk around with a scowl on your face? I mean its one thing to be excited but apprehensive (which some are), its a whole different thing when some of you are still looking for ways to talk down on the team and diminish wins. Why are even a fan if you can't even enjoy it when your team wins?
  14. The great thing about these wins is none of them have been squeakers. We aren't barely surviving 20-17, or 24-21 or anything, all 3 games were more or less in the bag mid-way through the 4th quarter. And as others have mentioned, the team seams to get better over course of the game. The next 2 weeks I think will be the true mental test for the team. Talent wise, from what we've seen the past 3 weeks, they're good enough to play with and beat Navy or ECU. But can this team go on the road back to back against tough competition, and bring the necessary intensity to hold serve, that will be the test. Really hoping we can go 2-2 over these next 4 games though and clinch a bowl game before the UCF game. I'd love to see the guys loose for that game with no worries on needing a must win, and see them take the Knights to the woodshed.
  15. Will hurt the inverted wishbone look though. Hopefully thats not needed much in this game.
  16. War Flamingo says...GRRRREEEEEENNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. And they haven't beaten a team who has at least one win yet See, its all how you frame it. (North Texas, they're only win is 0-6)
  18. I'm pretty sure thats all people have been saying Exactly what mind set is that? That there is possibility that we go 3-3 the second half of the season and go to a bowl game? What an awful unrealistic mindset. And here is the need to completely make up arguments.
  19. I'm with some of the others. Actually I'm hoping this is nothing more than a troll thread. Otherwise some of you have an absolute unhealthy need to whine and complain about something to the point of making up arguments. "Tether expectations", "think we're Duke" "don't get sucked in". I mean really? 99% of people on here have be doing nothing but hoping to be 6-6 this year. That's not unrealistic expectations or "thinking we're duke". Thats beating 2 teams we will be favored against (SMU & UCF) and pulling an upset on 1 of 4 teams (you guys do know what the term upset means, right?...as in we are not expected to win). We don't play an SEC schedule (or this year maybe its B!G East schedule). We've already played the best team on our schedule (FSU) and likely the best team in our conference (Memphis), and outside the beast that is Dalvin Cook, we weren't overmatched in either of those games. We "could" beat any team left on our schedule. We "could" lose to any team left on our schedule (outside maybe UCF). I think people hoping to go 3-3 in those games is perfectly reasonable and realistic. And heaven forbid a fan base that has been through 4 straight absolute miserable seasons, gets a chance to finally see a glimmer of hope in their team and talk positive about it. I'm sorry, I simply can't see going through life so miserable to not only take a pessimist outlook on everything, but also feel the need to piss in other people's cherrios too.
  20. I wonder what the new configuration at Al Lang holds now that its been redone for soccer. If you can add stands there to make it atleast 25K, they should consider moving it there rather than the Trop. Better outdoor feel right along the water, and right in the heart of downtown.
  21. I'm good with that. I meant it more in trying to gauge fan interest coming back, but I could have framed it as in comparison to homecoming, hopefully we get 3-4K+ for the SMU game and hopefully 6-7K+ for the Temple game.
  22. I think 6-7 wins (outside shot of 8 wins including the bowl game). I'm going with wins against SMU, UCF and oddly enough Temple. They have a great defense, but as the UCF game showed, a below average offense. I think our front 7 can get some pressure and create turnovers, and if we use the 3 back set from the start, and get outside on them more, forcing their secondary to make tackles over their heralded front 7, we may just be able to outscore them in a low scoring affair. I'd go with Cincy as our best chance for a possible 7th win. Don't like our road matchups with Navy and ECU at all. As for attendance, hoping for 21-22K actual this weekend, and if we can get a win and pull an upset on the road, then 25-27K actual for the Temple game. Don't think we'll see 30K actual attendance this year at all.
  23. The tackling has me most worried about Navy. Won't be able to rely on good pass coverage, or qb pressure to stall drives a lot in that game. Will need to tackle and wrap up immediately to keep them from pulling a Dalvin Cook all over us.
