Some say the team is improving others say the team is not improving. I like to see what the numbers say. Numbers alone do not paint the complete picture but provide a high-level idea about what is going on. Looking solely at point-for and points-against in 2013 and 2014 how does the team fare? Through the first six games of 2013 USF scored 97 points and gave up 181 points, (-84). Through the first six games of 2014 USF scored 114 and gave up 173 points (-59). So there has been a +25 improvement. Removing the FCS game in both years, the picture looks different .USF gave up 128 points in 2013 compared to 142 in 2014. Offensively USF scored 76 points in 2013 compared to 78 points in 2014. Therefore the differential against FBS opponents in 2014 has increased by -12 from (-52) to (-64). Whether it is the 2013 team or the 2014 team the offense does the most damage in the first half scoring 58 points against FBS opponents in 2014 and 56 points against FBS teams in 2013. In the second half of the game there is no difference in both years USF has only managed to score 20 points. Defensively speaking USF has flip-flopped a bit. In 2013 against FBS opponents USF gave up 72 points in the first half and 56 in the second. In 2014 USF has given up 66 points in the first half and 76 points in the second half. We had one such touchdown this year.
