From todays Sports Section in the Tampa Bay Times: $2.125M Sale price by Southern Miss to give up its home game to Nebraska for their football opener next year, deadspin.com reports; and surely not a coincidence, the amount Nebraska is paying is almost exactly what SouthÂern Miss owes its newly fired coach, Ellis Johnson . Bull-by-Marriage Posted November 30, 2012 Group: Bull Backers Topic Count: 355 Content Count: 4,741 Reputation: 127 Days Won: 3 Joined: 02/25/2004 Share Posted November 30, 2012 Need to stop these BS severance packages. Should have built into the contract severance reduced by 10% for each game lost in the previous 12 games prior to date of termination, or maybe receive 10% of severance for each game won in the previous 12 games. Zero accountability when coaches are guaranteed millions that are not tied to their performance. I agree, but it's like that in all facets of business. It's almost better to be fired "without cause" than to stay employed. The Hillsborough County BOCC pissed and moaned about Pat Bean's "golden parachute", then turned right around and gave Mike Merrill pretty much the same thing. Your companies failing, you're fired, here's $10M for your troubles. But these aren't companies, they are tax funded public institutions. Really? Do you still believe that? It's a business pure and simple, the title may be different, but it's a BIG business.
