Last year the Big East could have been the proactive one to initiate the breakup of the now supposedly stable Big 12 by inviting Kansas, K-State, and Mizzou. They would have jumped back then, and TX, TT, OU, and OSU would now be in the Pac 16 and the 12 team Big East would be fine.

Any other ironic examples come to mind?

Nope, the Big East couldn't have done that without a big TV contract from someone. The buyout for the Big 12 has been over $20mil. The Big East would have had to be able to increase their yearly revenues over B12 money enough to more than make up for the $20mil.

The only way the BE would have gotten those schools last year would have been if the B12 collapsed and they didn't have to pay an exit fee.
