The second session of the Sling & Shoot 7 on 7 tournament and the USF Big Man Camp with over 50 teams from around the state attending.  It's always great to get kids on campus and see the improvements we've made to our facilities and get to be around the coaches, especially kids for 2013 and beyond.

USF Sling & Shoot II: Talent shows out again at Bulls' annual event | Analysis

By Brendan Sonnone and Chris Hays | Orlando Sentinel

8:29 a.m. EDT, July 24, 2011

TAMPA—

There was plenty of talent on hand Saturday during the second installation of the USF Sling & Shoot 7-on-7 tournament. With 52 teams in attendance, there were plenty of college prospects on the USF campus fields.

What really stood out was the sheer amount of NCAA Division I-A quarterback prospects in attendance. Jupiter’s Tyler Cameron is arguably the top gunslinger in the state and the rising senior displayed why.

He has a quick release, throws the ball with a lot of velocity and is also nimble. Cameron has USF high on his radar along with Tennessee, LSU, Wake Forest and Purdue.

Just got back from two of the hottest days of my life, but definately time well spent...son participated in the Skip Holtz big man camp run by the USF line coaches...great camp - well run and a definate learning opportunity for anyone who hopes to move on to the next level, or just become a better high school baller.  Also took in some of 7 on 7 activity during breaks in the big man camp.  Again, very well run, with the USF facilites making everything that much better.  The high school talent level in this area is amazing, with year round conditioning and specialized training at every position.  If the Bulls can secure even a fraction of the talent that was on campus this weekend, there will be bright recrutiing classes in the days ahead.

I remeber in 2003 Hillsborough County sent 53 young men to Div 1a schools. Get a quarter of that and you have a strong class already.

...Pasco wasn’t the only winner of the University of South Florida Sling and Shoot 2 football tournament. USF emerged as a winner too, thanks to the exposure the 7-on-7 event provided.

With 51 teams from across the state and Georgia, more than 1,000 prep football players got an up close view of the Bulls athletic facilities during the two-day tournament.

“I think this is a great weekend for a number of reasons,†said USF head coach Skip Holtz, who was very visible during the event, making the rounds to watch various games.  “The high school coaches and their teams get an opportunity to come out here with 51 teams, playing all day yesterday, all day today and they get an opportunity to develop some depth on their football team. I think it’s great for the high schools.

“But it’s a win-win situation. It’s great for South Florida. We’ve got something here that I think is pretty special.â€

Surrounded by all the new athletic facilities, including the recent renovations to the Sun Dome, the two-day event was spread out on the intramural and practice fields. Participants in the linemen challenge got to workout on the Bulls turf practice field.

“I just think this program is growing leaps and bounds,†Holtz said.
