ESPN RISE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL | NIKE SPARQ COMBINE

Kynon Codrington Assoc. Manager of Football Events and Digital Content 03/13/11

ORLANDO -- It was a picture perfect day in central Florida as the 2011 Nike SPARQ Combine tour continued Sunday at Lake Highland Prep. More than 900 prospects tested for a chance to punch a ticket to the second annual SPARQ Rating National Championship this summer.

The talent on hand was second to none as many top area players choose to participate with a multitude of other events going on across the state. A sensational sophomore stole the show and vaulted himself to the top of the national SPARQ Rating leader board.

Top rising senior

Rayshawn Jenkins, WR, Admiral Farragut, (St. Petersburg, Fla.)

Jenkins played QB last season and racked up 17 TDs, ten passing and seven rushing for the Blue Jackets. The USF commit measured in at 6 feet.5, 185-pounds and has the size-speed ratio to be a difference maker with the ball in his hands. On Sunday, the rangy wideout ran a 4.57-second 40 and 4.18-second shuttle. His power ball toss nearly topped the 40-foot mark en route to a 109.02 SPARQ Rating. The SPARQ score was the second highest of the day. Look for his name to surface on the recruiting front with his combine performance.

Ray said he could have done even better, but he strained his back.

This is supposed to be a video of the Orlando Nike SPARQ combine. There is an interview with Rayshawn near the beginning. There are other USF prospects shown as well.

If the link does not take you directly there, then just click on the one which says, "Orlando Nike..."

Well it was nice to see that Rivals has removed the player from someone's  Class of 2003. Now if they could just get Brown added to their commitment list.

Brown has some pretty good offers...""I'm receiving letters from LSU, Kansas State, Kentucky, Duke, Southern Miss, Tulane, Louisiana Tech, Arkansas, South Florida, and North Carolina State." - (http://louisianatech.scout.com/2/1038615.html)

Also, check out this video on Jenkins. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_iANNbeUuA.

Here's a recap of his game vs Keswick Christian

"Football: Admiral Farragut 38, Keswick Christian 7

Rayshawn Jenkins is a multitalented quarterback who can play multiple positions. So with Toddrick Macon and Cortavious Givens both nursing injuries, the Blue Jackets decided to use Jenkins as the main ball carrier. In his first start at running back this season, Jenkins ran for a team-high 123 yards on 14 carries and a TD to lead Admiral Farragut to victory in a district game. Jenkins didn’t stop there. He also was 2-for-2 passing for 56 yards and a score. And he was on the receiving end of a 31-yard touchdown pass.

http://www.farragut.org/page.cfm?p=27&teamID=19&event=606&show=recap

That is a nice list, but is receiving letters the same as receiving offers? Sounds like it's just schools expressing interest. Still, LSU and Arkansas are two top-notch SEC teams right now, so it's a nice list of schools nonetheless. Just curious about what it actually means.

A state track: AFA's Jenkins keeps his feet, if not shoes, in win

WINTER PARK — Rayshawn Jenkins wiggled his arms and bounced lightly on his toes like a boxer before the bell. He was among eight 110-meter hurdlers who crouched and waited for the pistol Friday in the Class A state final.

The Admiral Farragut Academy junior’s legs sliced over the first three hurdles as crisply as scissors. Navigating the next three became treacherous. Jenkins was building up speed but he was not maintaining a good rhythm.

Then he felt the shoe on his right foot, his lead leg, loosen.

By the seventh hurdle, it flew off.

Jenkins went through the final three hurdles attempting to solve a complex physics equation of running and high-stepping at top speed without crashing.

He did it, lunging across the finish line in 14.92 seconds to win his second straight title in his signature event.

“That’s never happened to me before,†Jenkins said. “I always make sure my shoes are tied on tight before a race. I could feel it coming off and I almost fell when it did. But I was able to keep my balance and win.

“I was fortunate.â€

It was not as if Jenkins needed any reminders of how precarious it is to be a high hurdler. Though Jenkins is a junior, he has already had to deal with surprises in state meets.

Last year, Jenkins finished as runnerup in the 300 hurdles after the defending champion, who appeared to be in control, clipped the penultimate hurdle and tumbled in the preliminaries.

But the reminders poured in just the same Friday at Winter Park’s Showalter Field.

“I’ve never seen anything like the race Rayshawn won,†Blue Jackets coach Phil Barnhill said. “To lose a shoe and still clear the last three hurdles and win is pretty amazing.â€

Jenkins also was fifth in the long jump (22-5) and sixth in the triple jump (43-9). In the 4x100 relay, he teamed with Napolean Maxwell, Cortavious Givens and Robert Goddard to finish sixth in 43.88 seconds.
