QB Hill Restates His South Florida Commitment

By BRETT McMURPHY bmcmurphy@tampatrib.com

TAMPA - Monticello Jefferson County High's Carlton Hill, rated the nation's No. 9 quarterback, said Sunday he has never wavered on his original commitment to South Florida and will sign with the Bulls.

``I'm committed to USF,'' said Hill, the Bulls' No. 1 recruiting target. ``I'm real impressed with USF. It's a real unique situation I'm walking into with USF going into the Big East. I want to come in and be that missing piece.''

Hill committed Aug. 23, but various reports in November claimed he was considering other schools.

Hill, one of 19 recruits who visited USF this past weekend, reconfirmed his commitment to USF's coaches.

``They know how I feel,'' Hill said. ``When I told them they were excited, real excited. They were hugging me. I thought I was going to get a kiss.

``What impressed me was how the team sticks together. The coaching staff treated me wonderfully and welcomed me with open arms.''

Despite his USF commitment, Hill said he plans to keep a scheduled visit to Miami this weekend. ``I want to take all my visits,'' he said. ``USF is clearly ahead of Miami. I never did decommit.''

Belle Glade Glades Central wide receiver Jessie Hester, the son of former NFL receiver Jessie Hester, also committed to USF, Hill said.

Former Lake Wales linebacker Gene Coleman, who signed with USF in 2003 but didn't qualify and attended Pearl River (Miss.) Community College, also committed.

The Bulls are nearing a commitment from Elizabeth (N.J.) safety Jerome Murphy.

``I definitely see myself functioning there,'' Murphy said. ``They are definitely my leaders.''

Murphy also is considering Western Michigan, North Carolina and Penn State. Miami Norland defensive end Gary Watts and linebacker Garrett White said they favor USF over Pittsburgh, usfbullseye.com reported. Watts and White were among five Norland teammates visiting USF. USA Today Offensive Player of the Year Ryan Perrilloux, of Reserve (La.) East St. John, who considered a visit to USF, is headed to Texas.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
