We were on him for a little bit at one point but backed off due to grade concerns.

Correct.

He really wanted to play for USF.

As it turned out, we took a chance on his teammate Claude Davis, who ended up having to go to junior college before returning to USF.

Yup, a Lake Gibson product, a year younger than Grothe, but they played together.

He's a good story, came to town with no grades, and his HS coach really turned it around for him and he got his life on track.
