BIG4.  I have been reading about the discontent among some fans and media about Offensive coordinator Steve Addazio,s and his so called , conservative play calling and was wondering if you have any insider information about this ?  I mean do you think this could be an distraction among the team or is this totally an outside the box thing ?

That's a message board, guy in his parent's basement thing.  Like Sun Columnist Pat Dooley said, Addazio kept this team together when Meyer was going through all his health stuff. Which includes the top-ranked recruiting class he helped to reel in. Addazio can be conservative at times, but against Cincy last year, you see what he can do with the offense.

What do people want when the execution wasn't there?  They couldn't snap the freakin' ball on Saturday. Did people want Brantley running flea-flickers, hook and laterals and halfback passes?  They ran from the I and other sets to change the pace and stay vanilla as possible.  Meyer never opens up the playbook in the opener.  Most good coaches don't tip their hand with a superior opponent coming in next.  We played like crap for 80% of the day and came away with the win.  It was the ugliest win since I started watching games in my freshman year in '94.

People who start websites like firesteveaddazio.com and want to call for his head need a more time consuming hobby.  I'll reserve judgment on the play-calling after a few games against higher caliber opponents.

so what you are saying is the Bulls, are in fact, superior, to the, Gators?  Am I understanding this correctly? :D

You may be..we'll have to see.  But, I mean superior to Miami...as you know.  ;)

Florida also played 15 true freshmen this weekend...more than anyone else in the country.  So, yeah...bound to be some mistakes here and there.  Also, had some redshirt freshmen experience out there, too.  Yeah, we didn't have a good game, but it was nice to see the young guys get some meaningful p.t.

I know that both USF and UF lost a number of players to the draft this year and it's difficult to replace all of them at one time, even for Florida.

I also know that Florida has been a pipeline to the NFL, so I'm curious as to how many players on your OL and DL do you expect to be drafted this year?

From the lines....probably not as many big-time contributors as last year when we lost Pouncey, Dunlap and Cunningham.  Also losing Spikes who can play the rush end hurt.  (Insert amateur porn joke here).

In sheer numbers, we'll lose veterans on the O-line...Pouncey, Johnson, Hurt, Gilbert. Off the D-line, we'll lose Marsh, Sanders, Trattou, Lemmens and Antwine.  However, that's why it's imperative we work top recruits into the rotation.  Won't be able to do it every week or as early as they'd like, but they'll see time.  Guys like Powell, Floyd and Easley are too talented to not see the field.

What I don't think most UF fans realize, is that USF will probably have just as many players drafted into the NFL from their lines this year as UF. They think after having lost JPP and Selvie that we are much weaker, but I don't think that will be the case because we have more overall talent and depth. Also, last year our OL was very young and this year they are much bigger, stronger and with a lot more experience under their belt.

I think this game will be won in the trenches and USF should be able to match up very well with UF in that regard.

I think this is where UFS fans don't really have a good read on UF fans at all. We've heard the noise from the USF program for years.  Leavitt did a great job of getting the word out and getting you guys in people's heads.  UF fans have seen the games and have plenty of friends and relatives who are fans, alums. Just because we may not know all the names beyond Grothe, Pierre-Paul, Selvie and Daniels...doesn't mean we don't take your boys seriously.

This is a huge game for USF.  So, thusly a huge game for us.  It's an in-state game.  We recruit the heck out of the Tampa area and winning this game would go a long way for your program.  Florida knows that...coaches, players...fans.  We don't think we're facing late 90's USF..we know we're facing a program on the rise with a very good coach and staff.

What remains to be seen is how they will match up.  Maybe on paper it looks even...but, we'll see on Saturday.  That's why they play the games.  I know USF will be ready.  You can also count on Florida being ready.

Well, I doubt the match-up on paper looks anywhere near even, considering your roster is made up mostly of 4 and 5 star blue-chip players and we have primarily 3 star guys. That probably translates into a lot more depth at just about all positions and that should work even more to your advantage on  what figures to be a very hot day in the Swamp.

You aren't a 16.5 point Vegas favorite just because they like your uniforms better.  ;)

I was responding to your post about "matching up well".  I'm not sure.  Not because I don't think you guys are good, but because I don't know all the particulars.  I know UF and know the potential is there.  We have some good young players who aren't freshmen like Howard, Hunter, Sanders and Marsh at DT...and some workmen at end like Lemmens and Trattou.  But, like I said...we'll find out soon enough on Saturday.  Actually, not soon enough...I want to watch more football!!!

After what the world saw on Saturday from our offense, I wouldn't be surprised to see it come down below 14.  Whether it stays or not...well, we'll have to see what the week of practice and rumors brings.  But, you guys played well and we didn't.  I thought 17 was a little high for a "rivalry" game.  But, what do I know?  I don't set the lines.

It's flattering for you to consider this a "rivaly game."

I know that "what's his name" on the Miami board, and probably most of their fans, wouldn't consider it as such, even if we beat them a few times.  :o

Why would Florida buy out of the USF game in 2015?  I mean, we don't like leaving the state and if you are going to continue to get better, we don't have to leave and we get to play a good in-state team.

I'd be okay with Florida leaving the state to play OOC games, but it's not up to me and the fans.  Meyer has tried to set up some games as well.  Tried with Utah, but it fell through.  We play a normally tough SEC schedule as well.  Not sure what it's going to be like this year, but we play at 'Bama.  We play at Tennessee.  We have a lot of home games and make a ton of money off those games.  We pack 90,000+ into that stadium and the fans come to every game.

If USF keeps building and Holtz starts scheduling a bunch of away OOC games...good for them and you guys.  You'll have some cool road trips to plan.

I agree, especially now that you aren't playing Miami and you are not willing to go out of state, it doesn't leave you with that many options.

Ideally, at some point, we'd like to get UF to play in Tampa, even if that means giving up a 2-1 in your favor.

Wnen the original contract for this game was signed, it had a clause to renegotiate the price based on market conditions at the time it was to be played. I'm glad that UF has lived up to that part of the bargain. I presume the same thing would happen for the 2015 game:

Nice raise: USF gets $700,000 from Gators

Ever since the long-awaited USF-Florida game was first announced in 2002, the "guarantee" figure to be paid to the Bulls for making the trip up to Gainesville has been reported as $500,000. But with the game being rescheduled from its original date and the market changing for such games, Florida agreed to renegotiate the payout, and last month, the total was upgraded to $700,000.

That's the biggest check the Bulls have gotten for a football game -- next year, when they open the season at Notre Dame, USF will get $850,000 from the Fighting Irish and an additional $125,000 from the Big East. Since taking over as athletic director in 2004, Doug Woolard has taken the stance that as a member of a BCS conference, USF shouldn't take paychecks to play road games without home games in return. The Notre Dame has been the only exception he's agreed to sign; the Florida game predates his tenure as athletic director, as did a 2007 trip to Auburn.

By comparison, USF paid I-AA Stony Brook $350,000 to come to Tampa for Saturday's season opener.

Since joining the Big East, USF has been able to get 1-1 series with: Kansas; NC; NCST; MSU; Indiana; FSU and a 3-3 series with Miami. Next year we open the season @ND, but that has been our only recent payday game. At this point, I doubt we would sign for just another payday game @Florida.

Holla!  USF gettin' paid!!!

Even $700,000 is still below current actual market value for a payday with even a NON-BCS 1-A team, so Florida is getting away cheap.

For Florida to get a BCS team to come in for for a payday would cost them at LEAST $1 million in today's market. Some non-BCS teams are already getting that amount from the Big Boys with huge stadiums.
