New USF Homepage

Did anybody notice the new USF homepage at: www.usf.edu? I didn't really know it was changing until I stumbled upon it earlier today.

To be honest, in my opinion, it looks like a step backwards when compared to the previous design. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it looks too cookie cutter to me. Almost like a resume that you can tell was created from a generic template. I'm kind of left scratching my head over this one, as I really thought they did a great job with the previous re-design.

What do you guys think?

I agree, I think the previous design looked much sharper than this one.

It looks similar to most SUS webpages. For the most part they all look cookie cutter except FAU, FIU and FSU.

I actually like this page setup more.

Of course most sites are cookie cutter. Users expect certain things in certain locations.

@CyberBull, MIT's site is pretty mundane.

UF is the worst of the FL bunch and I'd say FIU or Miami's is the best.

Judy Genshaft has served as USF's sixth president since 2000.

When I was a student, I would have flunked Freshman English for writing a sentence like that.

We need to do better.

I realize that other SUS school sites look similar, and most other schools have a template like look, but my problem has more to do with the fact that I felt we had a very nice and sharp design before and I didn't really see the need to mess with that.

If there's one thing that I definitely don't like about the current design it's the image slideshow. A lot of other universities, including our previous site, has/had large sweeping images which catches the eye of the user and helps showcase great things about the campus. While we still have a slideshow, the actual images only take up a fraction of the space allocated to the slideshow. I know, nitpicky, but still.

And Bleacher, totally agree, awful sentence.

I emailed the webmaster about this error.  They have since fixed it.  They replaced it with my suggestion
