Bulls focus on winning, not the weather

By GREG AUMAN, Times Staff Writer

TAMPA - Saturday's showdown at Cincinnati, with its bowl ramifications for both teams, might be the biggest game in USF's three-year history, and it could be one of the coldest. USF has never played a game so far north this late in the season.

We all know the "three-year" history is wrong (although he might have meant the time USF has played I-A ball).

However, he is not far off on " it could be one of the coldest. USF has never played a game so far north this late in the season."

Check this out.

COLDEST USF GAMES:

11/29/03 @ Memphis (W 21-16) [46 degrees at kickoff]

10/28/00 @ Connecticut (W 21-13) [48 degrees at kickoff]

 * USF is 2-0 in temperatures below 50.

FORECAST FOR CINCINNATI 11/20: Hi 61; Lo 45 30% change of rain.

NOVEMBER ROAD GAMES: (5-2)

11/08/97 @ Cumberland (W 44-0) [Lebanon, TN]

11/14/98 @ Georgia Southern (L 23-28) [statesboro, GA]

11/11/00 @ Middle Tennessee State (L  9-45) [Murfreesboro, TN]

11/23/02 @ Houston (W 32-14) [Houston, TX]

11/08/03 @ East Carolina (W 38-37 2OT) [Greenville, NC]

11/29/03 @ Memphis (W 21-16) [Memphis, TN]

11/03/04 @ Alabama-Birmingham (W 45-20) [birmingham, TN]

The furthest north USF has played in November is Lebanon, Tennessee - just east of Nashville.

Interesting Note:USF has a 4-game winning streak in road games in November (all over C-USA teams).

On a side note:  If we use 40 degree weather as an excuse for  losing then that is pretty sad.  Let's not become the frigging bucs of college football.

Upon further review there are no inaccurate facts in this short bit.

1.  The game still could be the coldest.

2.  Undoubtedly it could be the biggest game in our three-year history.

3.  And we've never played this far North this late in the season.

The only semantical issue is the reference to our 3 year history.  One must presume he meant our 3 year 1-A history, which is the only relevant fact missing in the small snipet, which would have tied the piece together better.  In the article Auman is 4 out of 5, so he's getting better.
