PF recruit Montreal: USF at top of list

Daequon Montreal, the 6-foot-8 power forward from College of Southern Idaho who will make an official visit to USF next weekend, said Wednesday that USF is at the top of his list and the only school he has scheduled for an official visit.

"They've done a great job of recruiting me," Montreal said. "I feel like they really need me for next year."

Montreal, who is from Syracuse, N.Y., said that Boise State would be next on his list -- he's made an unofficial visit to their campus, with Fresno State and St. John's as schools he's still considering. He had talked with Arizona, but with their coaching situation, they're not a factor right now.

Montreal -- his first name is pronounced day-KWON -- averaged 15.9 points and a team-best 8.9 rebounds for CSI, and finished as the team's most accurate 3-point shooter, going 18-for-45, a 40 percent clip. He also finished second on the team in blocks, behind 7-foot freshman Aziz Ndiaye of Senegal. Assistant coach Reggie Hanson has been his primary recruiter for USF.

Montreal's official visit is immediately before the spring signing period starts on April 15, and USF is in strong contention for the other scheduled visit that weekend, Oak Hill (Va.) small forward Glenn Bryant.

The people at Gonzaga are real high on this guy which helps convince me that he will help us if we get him. He's described as hardworker, lunchbox and hat hard type of player. He's nicknamed "Mr Fundamentals"

we already had a connection to the coaches there... since David Sills came from there, and Yusef Baker transferred to there after leaving USF.

Velcro...that was under the RMac regime...  3B, CSI has been a juco powerhouse for 50 years.  A guy named Elgin Baylor played there before transferring to Seattle University.  Coaches have found their way there ever since.  Gus Johnson....CSI then the University of Idaho, etc.

Normal

According to a poster on Greg's blog he signed with Boise. I didn't check further:

Unfortunately Montreal signed w/ Boise St. Oh well, you can't win them all

Yes. Sort of like when we signed Kayvon Webster [plus Kevin Williams] instead of Jayron Hosley this year in football. I really believe Webster [and K Williams] will help us out right away. People underestimate how FAST Webster is to play CB. He's burning up the track this season.
