Report: OU lands another football commitment

According to a report Friday in the Clarksdale (Miss.) Press Register, OT Tavaris Jeffries of Coahoma Community College, has given a verbal commitment to OU for the 2009 recruiting class.

"I'm excited about it," Jeffries was quoted on the newspaper's Web site. "Oklahoma has such a rich tradition and I know a lot is going to be expected of me but I'm looking forward to it. I know they can get almost anyone that they want, and I feel honored that they think that much of me to want me to come there."

The 6-5, 320-pound Jeffries hasn't been rated by Rivals.com and is a one-star prospect by Scout.com. The newspaper reports the Memphis native had considered Marshall, Kansas, Ball State, South Florida, Florida International and Texas Tech, but Rivals.com lists Marshall as the only school that offered him a scholarship.

"His signing is proof that we have talent here," said Jeffries' junior college head coach, Freeman Horton. "This is going to help the college in so many ways. It’s going to get recruiters here to look at our kids and its also going to get us better players."

Commitments are non-binding. The first day players can sign a national letter of intent is Wednesday.
