that article is pure speculative BS.

Pitt and Buttgirls aren't going anywhere.

Your right - this is just speculation by the author -BUT-  :moon there is some logic behind his speculation based on the existing Big East contract, not only with South Florida, but also between the 8 Football Schools and the 8 Basketball Schools. The contract that was inked when Miami, VT, and BC bolted for the ACC states that no school can leave and no school will be allowed into the Big East until 2010 when the contract expires.

Thus this topic is something that may end up becoming a hot topic over the next year... and I agree with the Author that the Conference just needs to split.

the conference does need to split, but Pitt and Rutgers going to the Big 10?  no.
