BIG GAME, BIG WEEK FOR BIG EAST OPENER VS. PITT

Tampa (Sept. 29, 2008) – This week the University of South Florida football team is preparing for its highly anticipated, nationally televised game against the University of Pittsburgh on Thursday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. In addition to the game, there will be a number of events and highlights in and around the game.

The Pitt game has turned into a rivalry over the past few years with the Bulls holding a 3-2 advantage in the all-time series. The game opens the BIG EAST season for USF and is televised on ESPN, with its top broadcasting team of Chris Fowler, Craig James, Jesse Palmer and Erin Andrews calling the game. The buzz is growing and fans will be an important factor in the game, with the USF athletics department providing many opportunities for fans to feel “Bulls Pride.”

The day of the game fans are encouraged to attend Bull Zone! This is where the pre-game football experience begins. Located in Lot 6D outside of Raymond James Stadium, the entertainment is diverse. There’s the USF pregame radio show that provides recent news from the BIG EAST and USF, an Outback Steakhouse Jr. Bulls Club Inflatable, Bulls Club tent, Varsity Bulls Club tent and Alumni tent. In addition, there will be numerous vendors selling products and even giving away free stuff. Bulls Zone starts when the parking lots open at 3:30 p.m.

In game will feature a half-time promotion as one lucky fan will have the opportunity to sink a 60 foot basketball shot on a portable goal to win $25,000. To register fans must email their name and contact number to bullsvideopromo@gmail.com. The winner will be randomly chosen Thursday morning and must have a ticket to the game.

At halftime, the USF men’s and women’s basketball teams will be recognized as they both are preparing to start their 2008-09 seasons.

In addition, USF athletics will honor USF Beijing Olympians Siri Nordby, Sasha Springer-Jones and Damu Cherry during a first quarter television timeout. Nordby was a member of Norway’s Olympic women’s soccer team, Springer-Jones competed for Trinidad-Tobago in the 100 meter dash and Cherry ran the 100 meter hurdlers to become USF’s first Olympic track and field athlete to represent the United States. Cherry will be the only one attending the game.

There is also a chance to bid on two Game Day experiences: a “Kickoff Tee Retrieval” or “Running with the Bulls.” The starting bid for the “Kickoff Tee Retrieval” is set at $100. The fan who wins will run out onto the field and retrieve the kickoff tee after the Bulls kickoff. They will also receive two tickets and a game program. 

The “Running with the Bulls” bid price is set to $200. This fan will accompany the Student Bulls Club as they lead the football team out of the tunnel. They will also receive two tickets and a game program. The auctions end Wednesday morning.
