Bay is a great option and they would at least get him for 1 more season after this one.  They need to do anything short of moving price to make this happen since most of the other quality options are off the board.

Certainly a smart move if you get him.

this is the guy i wanted all along.  I hope it happens.  Anyone but price and ill take it.  It would make us solid contenders not only this year but next as well.

Yeah, I always thought this was the best way to go too.  I hope they can make it work.

Barry Bonds

Don't have to give up anything

Low Cost

One of the best hitters in the game

Nothing to worry about if he's not here next year

No

Have to give up team chemistry

Cost is not known

Used to be one of the best hitters in the game

Would have to worry about the circus he would bring this year.

The Post Gazzette says Pittsburgh wants Jeff Niemann, shortstop Reid Brignac and outfielder Fernando Perez.

That would be a big hit but WORTH IT!

Bay wouldn't be a rent-a-player because he will also be under contract for next year.  We have Bartlett, Zobrist and number 1 pick Bekham at SS.  Niemann will be a good starter but having price will be fine.  And we're loaded with outfielders already.

If this is what they are asking, it is worth it.  The rays might not be in this situation next year and all they need is a RH power bat.

Rays' talks for Bay slowed

Wednesday, July 30, 2008 | Print Entry

Posted by Jayson Stark

Although that much-rumored Jason Bay-to-Tampa Bay deal remains theoretically "alive," as one baseball man with knowledge of the discussions said, those two teams had "very little dialogue" Wednesday.

The Pirates do appear to have backed off their earlier attempts to get four players in return for Bay. But they still want all discussions to begin with two high-end prospects. And Tampa Bay has been resisting deals like that for weeks now.

One possible reason those conversations between the Rays and Pirates have slowed could involve Manny Ramirez. Officials from several teams theorized Wednesday that if the Red Sox were to trade Manny, they would target Bay as a right-handed bat to replace him.
