On Sunday afternoon the Jacksonville Jaguars selected Bulls cornerback Trae Williams with the 24th pick of the 5th round making him the tenth USF Bull drafted into the NFL. At 5'9.5-193 pounds, Trae was ranked the # 20 corner by ScoutNFLexperts.com after started all 13 games last season with 45 career starts as a Bull, but was still available when Jacksonville made their pick. When the Jags chose Williams with the 154th overall pick they made him the second USF corner taken in 2008, joining Mike Jenkins who was selected with the 25 the pick in the first round by Dallas.Trae was a perfect compliment to Jenkins for the Bulls. He may not have the physical attribute or the speed, but makes up for it with game savvy, and phenomenal play making ability, and a knack for finding the ball. Over the last two years he has led all D-I players with 13 interceptions, with seven in '06 & six in '07, and his last three interceptions for pick sixes. Not as physical off the line but has great coverage ability, instincts, and plays much faster then he's clocked at. He also seems to always be in the right place at the right time and makes big plays when needed. His biggest improvement in 2007 was his tackling, which has steadily increased every year Last season Trae has six interceptions, with three returned for touchdowns. Trae also had 10 pass breakups and 50 tackles with half a sack for the season. Was All-Big East second team, SI.com Honorable Mention, a Thorpe Award quarterfinalist, was invited to play in the East-West Shrine Game. As a junior was named USF’s Defensive Playmaker of the Year in 2006 after tying the school record (J.R. Reed) with seven interceptions, which lead the BIG EAST, with nine pass breakups and 49 tackles.--Chris Steuber NFL Draft Analyst, Scout.com Williams is an athletic cover corner who's quick and fluid in coverage and is strong when backpedaling off the line. He displays a good break on the ball and possesses good closing speed in coverage. He's extremely instinctive and has great awareness against defending the pass. He's a playmaker in the secondary who has good hands and cover skills. He's a physical corner who positions himself well and defends the run well. ESPN pre-draft analysis: Williams has the athletic ability, burst and ball skills to develop into an adequate sub-package corner and a valuable special teams' contributor. However, he doesn't defend the run well and he's vulnerable to getting beat deep when left on an island.http://southflorida.scout.com/2/750415.html
