Does anyone know when they are going to break ground on the new Track & Field Complex?  Looking on the USF website it list the project in procurement.  From my understanding this was to be mostly funded by Hillsborough County and was going to include a multipurpose sprint turf field in the middle (hopefully with a big iconic "U" on the field).  This was announce over a year ago and it would be nice to get moving on at least one athletic facility improvement project.

Here are more details (maybe the football fields, softball stadium and practice fields are all part of one project)

• In May 2006, USF Athletics announced it had received $2.79 million from the Hillsborough County Commission to complete another facility in our plan: a track and field complex. The $3 million gift announced June 1 from Carol and Frank Morsani provides half of the funding needed to complete two more facilities: a football practice complex and a softball stadium. 

• The Frank Morsani Football Practice Complex will consist of three 100-yard grass fields and a 100-yard sports turf field that will be part of the track complex. A courtyard at the entry gate will carry Mr. Morsani’s name, as well as the names of other contributing donors who help make the facility a reality.

• The Softball Stadium will be an 800 to 1000-seat partially covered structure featuring

a press box, television and radio booths, a hospitality suite and other amenities.

I believe the track and soccer stadium are to be torn down at the end of the track season, and the new ones completed by fall.

I believe they are going to keep the existing track and build a new one next to it.
