Coach McCarney

I hope Coach McCarney stays at least one more year before moving onto a Head Coaching Position.  I know his name has been mentioned to fill the head coaching vacancies at two schools, however, with the defense losing some key players it would be beneficial for USF to have him on the sidelines next year.  Coach McCarney has done great job this year.

However, if he doesn't, Duke just canned Ted Roof.  Roof was a defensive assistant to Carl Franks and got the Duke job when Franks himself was fired.

I really think it helps our players and our alma mater to have position coaches that are "overqualified".  McCarney is/was an awesome fit.

If need be, maybe Carl can work something out for his friend Ted. . . . he deserves it as much as McCarney.

If his ultimate goal is to be a Head Coach, this year will be a great year to find another job.  There are so many jobs out there like SMU, Duke, Southern Miss, GT, etc.

I would imagine he gets paid crap as a position coach here.

Also considering he is not even a coordinator if someone wants to offer him a head coaching gig he would probably be wise to jump at it.

That would be a lateral move - BCS coordinator to lower tier nonBCS school HC.  He'd be better off remaining one to two more seasons to get a BCS job.  Plus the weather in Tampa by far makes up for the lower salary.  Which brings me to another thought, is Iowa State still paying McCarney.  ISU could be paying him the difference in his old ISU HC contract and USFs OC contract.  How many yrs did he have on his contract when ISU let him go?  Anyone know/remember?

I believe Iowa State is paying Coach McCarney the balance of his contract which is over a million, therefore, money wise he is doing okay.
