Week 8 -- FINAL

1) USF's Game

THU 10/18 - #2 USF 27  (6-1, 1-1) at #33 Rutgers 30  (5-2, 1-3)

2) Games involving one or more schools on USF's 2006 schedule.

FRI 10/19 - Louisville 17  (4-4, 1-2) at #35 Connecticut 21  (6-1, 2-0)

SAT 10/20 - #23 Cincinnati 17  (6-2, 1-2) at Pittsburgh 24  (3-4, 1-1)

SAT 10/20 - #24 Elon 24  (5-2, 3-1) at #7 Wofford 13  (6-2, 3-1)

SAT 10/20 - Mississippi State (4-3, 1-3) at #9 West Virginia (5-1, 1-1)

SAT 10/20 - Buffalo 12  (3-5, 3-1) at Syracuse 20  (2-6, 1-2)

SAT 10/20 - Tulsa 23  (4-3, 2-2) at Central Florida 44  (4-3, 2-1)

SAT 10/20 - Florida Atlantic 39  (4-3, 3-0) at Louisiana-Lafayette 32 (1-6, 1-2) OT

SAT 10/20 - #18 Auburn 24  (5-3, 3-2) at #5 LSU 30  (7-1, 3-1)

IDLE: North Carolina (2-5, 1-2)

3) Games involving Notre Dame because of its ties to Big East bowl games.

SAT 10/20 - #13 Southern California 38  (6-1, 3-1) at Notre Dame 0  (1-7)

NOTE: As the Irish are now ineligible for a bowl game, this will be the last week to track Notre Dame games!

4) Games involving at least one team ranked higher than the 2nd highest Big East team.

If the highest and 2nd highest teams can move up and up the polls, then there is at least a chance that 2 Big East teams could make the 10 BCS slots.  Big East ranks: BCS #2 USF, BCS #9 West Virginia

SAT 10/20 - Vanderbilt 17  (4-3, 2-3) at #6 South Carolina 6  (6-2, 3-2)

SAT 10/20 - #4 Oklahoma 17  (6-1, 3-1) at Iowa State 7  (1-7, 0-4)

SAT 10/20 - Michigan State 17  (5-3, 1-3) at #1 Ohio State 24  (8-0, 4-0)

SAT 10/20 - #14 Florida 45  (5-2, 3-2) at #8 Kentucky 37  (6-2, 2-2)

SAT 10/20 - #7 Oregon 55  (6-1, 3-1) at Washington 34 (2-5, 0-3)

5) Games involving a Top 12 non-BCS team, or a Top 16 non-BCS team ranked higher than any BCS conference's highest ranked team.

If no teams from the non-BCS conferences make the BCS, then that would mean 4 at-large slots in the 5 BCS bowls.  This increases the chances for 2 Big East teams to be selected.

No Mid-Major Team is ranked in the Top 12 or ahead of the lowest BCS conference leader (BCS #8 Arizona State ).  Highest ranked non-BCS team: BCS #18 Hawaii

IDLE: #17 Hawaii (7-0, 4-0)

6) Other games of interest, including teams ranked near USF.

USF is #2 in the AP poll.

SAT 10/20 - #10 California 21  (5-2, 2-2) at UCLA 30  (5-2, 4-0)

SAT 10/20 - #21 Tennessee 17  (4-3, 2-2) at #30 Alabama 41 (6-2, 4-1)

SAT 10/20 - Miami, FL 37  (5-3, 2-2) at #36 Florida State 29  (4-3, 0-3)

SAT 10/20 - #22 Texas Tech 10  (6-2, 2-2) at #15 Missouri 41  (6-1, 2-1)

SAT 10/20 - #15 Kansas 19  (7-0, 3-0) at Colorado 14  (4-4, 2-2)

IDLE: #3 Boston College (7-0, 3-0), #11 Virginia Tech (6-1, 3-0), #12 Arizona State (7-0, 4-0)

F.B.S. (I-A) ranks are Associated Press rankings.  F.C.S. (I-AA) rankings are Sports Network

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22

"They picked us at the bottom. We're trying to get to the top. We're looking forward to the future, not backward.''
