Woolard:  The Case For A USF Coach Bobby Lutz

Recommended Posts

Guest Rueben_Horowitz

Looks as good as any of the others assts thrown out there. Lord knows, with our youth, the developing guards would be a huge asset..

Agreed.

You reach those people by winning against good teams on a consistent basis.

Agreed...There are other ways, but I'm not sure USF has the resources.

BTW, Velcro's avatar is still in play. Mac haters ARE pathetic .... both of them.

Nobody cares about Mac anymore.

The only other way, for THIS area, is to pay people to come to the games ... and you're right, we don't have the resources for that either.

There are two who like to still take shots wherever they can... but most have moved on.

Rueb how many games has your boy Hopkins won as a coach?

Enough said.

You talk like Lutz is a donkey.

The guy has been to the tourny 5 times in the last 9 years.

I don't think that is something to just push aside.

And trip -- I read he had 4 recruiting classes in the top 20 -- not 5.  I might have mis-spoke.

Rueb wants Hopkins because he is from Cuse and he can recruit.

I want Bobby Lutz because the guy has won every single place he has coached.

I like guys who win consitently.   And that is Bobby Lutzy.

He is Mr. Postseason - something USF never seems to find.

As for trying to find a guy who can fill the stadium - - my motto is -- "Win and everything will take care of itself."

It's not just the 5 times. It's that he did it in a major conference.

I got the trips to the Tourney confused with that. Point was he can obviously recruit if you measure by those rankings.

Quality wins, not just win. Seth won but couldn't get the signature wins to get the excitement rolling.

I really think Bobby Lutz could be a great fit for this school Trip.  It doesn't seem like he wishes for the lime light.  He just wants to win.

But you make some good points.

Still can't see him really wanting to move his 16 and 14 year old.

Would be really tough on the family.

Just finished up his 9th year at UNCC.  Has been to the post-season 7 of the 9 years he has been there.

135-83 overall record

Five trips to the NCAA tourny.

Four top 20 recruiting classes

1998-99 - 23-11 (C-USA Tournament Champs, NCAA 2nd Round)

1999-00 - 17-16 (NIT)

2000-01 - 22-11 (C-USA Tournament Champs, NCAA 2nd Round)

2001-02 - 18-12 (NCAA Tournament)

2002-03 - 13-16

2003-04 - 21-9 (C-USA Regular Season Co-Champs, NCAA Tournament)

2004-05 - 21-8 (NCAA Tournament)

2005-06 - 19-13 (NIT)

--

The major reasons he stays in Charlotte are

1.) UNCC is his alma-mater.

2.) Has a 14 and 16 year old -- can't imagine him wanting to move with them at that age.

I flew on a plane with him and his team from Charlotte to Pittsburgh about 2 months ago. I was amazed that his assistants sat in first class and he sat in the back with the players. He apologized to me for some of his players actions on the flight. They were well behaved and I was actually enjoying them talking to each other across the aisle. They were talking about other programs and games going on and about the BCS championship game. I do not follow college hoops that much and did not know anything about the coach but was amazed at how much of a players coach he seemed to be. Now that I have seen his record I think he would be a great pick up.

I know who we should get - Seth Greenberg. What a pimp! I bet if he coached at USF he'd do a great job...

Ari -

Forgive me if I don't want the guy that went 14-16 last year; including a stellar 7-9 in the A10.

A guy that hasn't beat a ranked team since 2003.

I agree... I think we need to go out and get someone who has some axe to grind or something to prove... someone who was let go from a place that he was successful and then let go..

Sounds like Bobby Knight is our man.
