he has one year somewhere else so USF can evaluate to see any warts, both on and off the field

then we can decide if we want him, loss of practice time with the team and our system will be a consideration.

if he does go somewhere else fine if USF takes him then we have a better sense of the prodution and off the field problems we can expect.

also JL gets to stay in good with the HS coach.

i hope someone is telling this kid what a poor choice of words he just made not just to USF but to any school/coach that may consider bringing him in, that one statment just narrowed his options considerably

The kid is just weighing his options.  I think that is the smartest thing he has done in this whole process.  USF isn't the right fit for everyone.  Especially when you consider we'll be throwing the ball less the next few seasons with Grothe, Ford, Plancher, and company.

There could be some underlying academic qualification issues that may have prompted this, which is not something he's going to bring up as a reason for going the JC route.
