If USF is such an awful place to coach and play

If he can't do that within the next 2-3 years, he needs to go.  But if he does what he needs to do in the next few days (you know what), then he'll have a vote of confidence from the overwhelming majority.

Overwhelming majority? ... Yeah, OK.  ::)

And just how exactly will this "vote of confidence" manifest itself?

"Yeah, OK  ::)."?    ::), right back at ya'.

Oh, that's right...attendance numbers hit an all-time high this year, didn't they?

I'd say that's as good of a barometer as anything anyone could possibly suggest.

A quote from Lee roy Selmon in April of 2003:

"Coach McCullum will lead a USF basketball program that wins with integrity.â€Â

He had the integrity part right, but not the wins part.  Coach McCullum has led a USF basketball program that loses with integrity and grace.

Doug Woolard has to decide whether or not this is acceptable.

Who else did Lee Roy interview back in '03 when Selmon decided to hire RMC?

PS. Did Lee Roy ever give out a 6 yr guaranteed contract to any other coach he hired?

"Among the other candidates Selmon contacted about the opening were Holy Cross coach Ralph Willard, Butler coach Todd Lickliter, Florida assistant Anthony Grant, Kentucky assistant Scott Rigot and Maryland assistant Dave Dickerson. "

Lickliter...wow!

Even though Butler lost their Championship Title Game the other day...being ranked in the Top 20...they are a lock for the NCAA's.

Just looking up some stats for Lickliter....129-60 overall, a great 70-13 record at home, and several Top 20 wins.

Here's already taken Butler to the Sweet 16 before...and obviously will get another shot to do that again this month.

What might of seemed like a reach in '03...obviously looks a little different today.

PS. What Grant has done in his first year at VCU and his past great recruiting at UF (especially SINCE '03), Grant's price probably has now gone way UP!

So did Willard and Lickliter turn down the offer, or was McCullum the choice ahead of them??   :-?

I cannot remember how this all went down a few years ago.

You didn't answer my question. How will this "overwhelming majority" give DW a vote of confidence? Sounds like you're saying that if DW fires Mac shortly, this "overwhelming majority" will show up in droves to the Sun Dome next year. Are you THAT unfamiliar with our program?

How many showed up when Seth was fired?  I know that attendance peaked for one game when they hanged and burned him in effigy at the half.

"Droves," no.  When you speak of USF basketball, you speak in relative terms.  The overwhelming majority may not be that many people (since interest in USF basketball rivals that of neighborhood Bocce Ball tournaments), but you have to start building support back up again sometime.  Bring in a good coach, and there will at least be some appreciation for having the guts to do what most USF fans want.

You build support at THIS university, in THIS city, by winning a lot and having quality wins. Seth won a lot, Mac has some quality wins. DW will have to decide if he sees the potential in the future for Mac to start winning a lot of games.

I have to keep reminding myself that most every post on a message board has the implied "I think" or IMO attached to it...    8-)
