All these people talking about how we need to compete with WVU, Louisville and Rutgers. Everyone needs to take a look at Pitt. They have by far the best class in the Big East, and I would think it ranks right up there nation wide.

and yet Pitt struggled last year...

coaching is more important...

Dave Wansted takes 4 and 5 star recruits and makes them into 2 & 3 star recruits.

Leavitt takes 2 & 3 star recruits and makes them play like 4 or 5 star recruits.

I think it's unfair to rate Pitt based on talent just yet. Their 2003-2005 recruiting classes were aweful, they didn't address obvious needs, they got a lot of guys who didn't qualify, and had to move guys around to fill positions.

They had a very solid class last year and return with a very good class this year. I believe it's unfair to say that their recruiting hasn't worked for them yet because most of their best recruits and future talent were only freshmen last year.

They are bringing in LeSean McCoy who last year was probably the best back available. He was covented by USC, Florida, Miami, and Va Tech.

No doubt USF does the best job at getting the most of their atheletes and will always have this advantage over Pitt. However, I wouldn't rule Pitt out as a BE contender in 2008 when a lot of what the Stache has recruited has matured.

as long as the Stache is there... the odds of underacheiving is greater than 50/50

As a Dolphins fan you don't have to convince me too hard. I just don't know if you can judge what he has going there just yet.

Pitt has had a tough few years but dont forget that they are the top program in the Big East. USF, RU and LU are on the rise.
