BIG EAST RECORD BREAKERS: NUMEROUS GAME, SEASON AND CAREER RECORDS FELL IN 2006

Numerous individual accomplishments, as a long list of game, season and career records were broken from start to finish in 2006.

Jan. 23, 2007

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - BIG EAST teams had tremendous success on the gridiron this season as league squads combined to go 37-8 in non-conference play and 5-0 in bowl games. The year also brought with it numerous individual accomplishments, as a long list of game, season and career records were broken from start to finish in 2006.

Louisville quarterback Brian Brohm will return for his senior campaign in '07 and will do so with a number of conference records already in hand. Brohm set a league mark with six 300-yard passing games this season en route to setting the record for 300-yard passing games in a career (11). In addition, he holds the mark for lowest percentage of interceptions in a career (1.62).

Brohm's teammate, junior kicker Art Carmody, broke the BIG EAST record for total points scored by a kicker in a season. Carmody had 123 points in `06, making 21-of-25 field goals and all 60 of his extra-point attempts.

The Rutgers' backfield tandem of senior fullback Brian Leonard and junior tailback Ray Rice set a handful of records this season. Leonard became the BIG EAST career record holder for consecutive games with a reception (46) and receptions in a career (207). Rice's 1,794 rushing yards in '06 broke former Miami running back Willis McGahee's league mark for rushing yards in a season (1,753). Rice also tied the conference records for most rushes in a season (335) and most 100-yard rushing games in a season (10). West Virginia running back Steve Slaton also posted 10 100-yard games this season.

Despite just completing his sophomore season, WVU quarterback Patrick White's name is already up and down the BIG EAST record book. White set two game records in '06 - rushing yards in a game (247) and yards per rush in a game (16.5). He also tied the league mark for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in a game (4). The dynamic signal-caller also set new conference records for yards per rush in a season (7.4) and most rushing yards by a quarterback in a season (1,219). Most impressively, however, is the fact that White set a BIG EAST career record for rushing yards by a quarterback (2,171); and he did so through just two seasons.

A number of other league marks were also broken in '06. Below is the complete list of BIG EAST individual game, season and/or career records which were set this season:
