Jose' Rips Administration

Jim,

The overtime game with Connecticut in Storrs was during the 2004-05 season, in the good ol' C-USA days. And if I remember correctly, Anedra Gilmore hit the game-tying three-pointer. Not calling you out, just letting stating the facts. Last season at Storrs, it was a little uglier: 77-47 loss.

Okay. Shows how much I follow the team... ;-)

THe interest doesnt have to be the same, however, if it isnt,  that should be solely the fault of the student/patron who doesnt come.  USF Marketing should STILL be marketing these women just as they market the men.  The Dome setup should be the same and we should be getting some butts in the seats.  He is 100% RIGHT for being upset.  There was ZERO marketing on campus and none I am sure off of it.  This is what he is talking about, he isnt expecting to sell out the dome....he just wants the community to have some excitement generated by USF Marketing.

The UConn game should be a good one... we pushed them to overtime in Storrs last year... now that they are in the Dome, who knows?

USF needs to really step up the pressure to get people to attend this game -- at the very least.

The OT game at Storrs was in our last year of C-USA. I believe UConn beat us pretty handily last season.

There should be a good crowd for this game. There was the last time UConn played here.

I guess this pretty much refutes the darkside's claims that a winning team will bring thousands more fans to the SunDome.  USF isn't a bball school, and Tampa isn't a bball town.

Exactly, just like it wouldn't ever be a hockey town, or that USF would NEVER have a football team......

i've been to almost every womens basketball game this season, i came to last nights game during halftime after getting out of class, but i do have to agree with Jose.  walking around campus, the signs that show the times of the basketball games were not updated with the time for last nights womens basketball game, it still showed the times for this weekends games.  as "the diehards" we need to step it up and support this team, how many people on here that live within 30 minutes were posting updates during the game?  show up and support this team, who cares if its womens basketball or not, these ladies put there heart and soul into every game they play, they win games, and are on pace to go to a second straight NCAA tourny, and possibly being ranked in the top 25 after last nights victory.  you all sit here and complain about the mens team, yet you all show up to watch them, well the women deserve it as well.  flsportsfan83 ones said that womens basketball was the only team worth supporting, yet he refuses to go to a game, he'd rather attend mens games where he blasts the coach.  get up off your lazy butts and get to the game, you will not be dissappointed.

Very weak work by the University if the game times aren't even updated. Almost disrespectful, to be honest.  How do you reruit into an environment like that?  Props to Jose, I'd say.

That's a very interesting article.

I'm sure that this is quite an accomplishment for womens basketball, but...just gotta say it: it's womens basketball. Maybe if you're still a student, maybe if you're within walking distance of USF, maybe if you're a can't-get-enough-of-USF type of fan, you'll attend a game.

Bordering on the politically incorrect, womens basketball, not unlike softball, golf, tennis, sailing, etc. just doesn't sit up there at the top of the list of things to do. It's unfortunate, for the participants, but that's the way it is. And that applies regardless of how good the team may be in any given year.

Just look at this board. How many threads - let alone posts - are devoted to the state of mens BB, compared to anything associated with womens BB.

Then again...from a press conference stream of thought...hey, this is gonna get us some pub, and with a catchy tag-line, more people will read about us. I know, had the title not been "rips USF", I wouldn't have read the article.  8-)

Just using your quote as a basis, not attacking you personally....

If we are all USF fans, then regardless if it's a men's or women's sport, should we not be there in person to support the student athletes and our University as much as possible?

I personally find it more enjoyable going to the women's BB games just because the quality of the product is much better than the men's team; but I do go to both.

Don't forget that part of the marketing machine is US - The Fan - The Student - The Alumni

As always, GO BULLS!!!

Jim,

I'm sure you would be one of the people Fernandez would be happy with.

Gurly,

Thanks for the props, if I may be so bold to call it that. I'm sure that you could have as well, but myself and Greg Auman literally hand counted the fan side of the Sun Dome. Fernandez has complained about lack of fans at games, but has never been as vocal as he was last night, at least, not on the record.

Mike, that wasnt bold at all.  You took it exactly as I meant it.  THe oracle has done a great job with our Womens team, but that doesnt give Marketing a right to get lazy..
