Basketball Adds Purdue Transfer Melvin Buckley

Guest BasketBull.

If the 5/8 rule were still around, we wouldn't even have this discussion.

The bottom line: This is a 'gift recruit'.

Let's all just say "thank you" and move on.

Geez, another guy with only two years of eligibility left.  On top of that, he isn't even a big man.  6-7, 205 lbs?  Likes to jack it up from the 3?  He is the second coming of 'Tron and the consensus on this board was everybody "couldn't wait for Tron to get out of here".

This "afterthought" recruit eliminates a roster spot for a big man with 4 years of eligibility, something we truly needed.  This coaching staff (RMC) continues to boggle my mind.

Tron was one of the best players ever to wear a Bulls uniform, but he also was a primadonna who like to remind everyone of that fact. Players like Tron do not come to play for a coach like McCullum, or that is my impression.

There are no big men with 4 years of eligibility left this year who are a) good enough to play in the Big East and B) qualified academically. We are bringing in six new players next year, if they were all 4-year players then there would be a logjam in a few years when they all left at the same time.

But you're right, we are still a little thin in the post position at this point.

good shooting hides many flaws

we need a BE caliber big man none were available

so bring in shooters ans slashers and good defenders

stack your eligibility so each of the next three years you can go after that big man and a project big man to fill those spots. seems like sound positioning to me.

I intend to give coach mac a chance ( like 2-3 years) to prove himself. others do not have that intention hence the chicken little routine

beastie, without the 5/8 rule, i don't think this eliminates any roster spots as we aren't filled out anyway. In fact, even if we are, in 2 years that is one more spot that will open up for us allowing an extra recruit that year.  There are positives around every dark cloud you post  ;)

Year 1 was a bust.  That leaves RMC 2 years to pull out of this funk.  When that time comes, remember who was driving this bus.   My point was that there may be a decent big man next year or the year after and we may not have a roster spot for him, depending on who we sign next year.  I hope this kid from Purdue is good, however after seeing how their fans are talking about him above, I am very hesitant to call this kid a good selection.

It is with great pleasurethat I introduce the University of South Florida's new Athletic Director: Beastiebull. I know he will do a superb job in replacing Mr. Semon. Any comments on your new hire Mr. Beastiebull?

Who's Mr. "Semon"?  Sounds like a porn star to me.

My point was that everybody on this board is giving RMC 3 years to prove he is worth a darn and that I'm an idiot for not giving him 3 years.  That leaves him 2 years to right this disaster that USF bball has become.

exactly beastie....he's on the clock, and he has two more years to go.  If he can take us from the brink of disaster to the brink of post season he will have done his job.

A positive for you to remember is the new AD has a long history as a basketball guy, hell he coached it in HS.  I imagine he will give CRM his time, but if things don't start working out I expect he will pull the plug quickly.  This guy also had a good history of hiring good b-ball coaches at St. Louis- 4 to be exact.  He knows good basketball, and coaching so feel good that if CRM doesn't get this thing going we won't be sitting around for 5 years or so waiting for someone in the Athletic Directors Office to figure it out.
