They are moving up to D1 and the Sun Belt.  For some reason I thought they were on the Bulls future schedules but after checking I was wrong.  Why not sign up to visit in 2008?

I think there were just "discussions" about scheduling the game in the future.  A local reporter was commenting about how USF wanted to play WKU over UCF.

At this point WKU would present more of a challenge!

They were on the proposed future schedules that Brett found on USF's site.  The issue was that it appeared that we would enter a 1-1 agreement with them.  They are currently in the same conference for football as Illinois State (Gateway).  The Gateway has already talked with South Dakota State and North Dakota State about moving in for football.  It was pretty much a foregone conclusion that WKU would move up.

If I remember, their colors are red and white, they brought quite a few fans to the game at RJ, and I think maybe even their cheerleaders and a band of some sort.  It was one of the better showings of support by a visiting team during the pre big east years.

Had nothing to do with "replacing UCF" any more than any other team on future schedules would replace UCF.  USF apparently has decided to move on from UCF, and WKU was one of many teams being discussed as well as several already signed - MSU, Indiana, etc.  WKU wasn't singled out as a replacement.

Yes, it was, by some trying to stir the pot...

Without going too far into it (too late)... the "replacing" had to do with the new Doug Woolard scheduling 'matrix' (although he probably doesn't call it that).  WKU and UCF happen to fall into the same category... hence the word replace is appropriate -- from a certain point of view.  Neither side was 'right' or 'wrong' - it depended on how you look at it.

However, moving to the Sun Belt would probably require a 2 for 1 with WKU.  And we have some history with them... going 2-2 against them from 1997-2000.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

"For me, I never considered it that way (as a stepping stone), honestly. When I was offered the head job at South Florida, and I'm sincere about this, I never thought I would ever go anywhere."
