Release: 11/06/2006

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (November 6, 2006) -- Trae Williams, a junior cornerback from Plant City, Fla., has been named Big East Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in USF’s 22-12 win over Pittsburgh.

Williams, who is fifth in the nation and first in the Big East in interceptions, picked up his sixth pick of the season to seal the win. He also broke up a pass that was subsequently intercepted by Mike Jenkins, and he had seven tackles in the game.

Meanwhile, quarterback Matt Grothe was named to the Big East Honor Roll for the week with 180 yards passing and 51 rushing, plus one touchdown through the air and one on the ground in the Pitt win.

awesome.  Secondary did a great job except for that 1 play in the 4th quarter.  He got that pick thrown right to him, but hey, he caught it.  The deflection led to that awesome catch with jenkins diving right to the student section, so great play there.  Trae and Mike always seem to end up close to both intercepting the same pass, heh.

Oh, and it looked like offensive pass interference on that play that jenkins got called on.

Congrats to Williams for leading the team in tackles.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
