That Poll is BS..... The Pac 10 is not the #1 Conf. and the Big East is not better than the SEC..... The ACC is also not better than the Big 12

sagarin ratings don't include bias from previous performance - just what has happened this year.  SEC has 1 more OOC victory than BE, but average ranking of those OOC wins is actually lower than the BE.  So, in terms of performance on the field against OOC competition rateing them nearly identical makes sense.  (doesn't mean the SEC isn't better, just that they really haven't done anything THIS year to prove it)

I gotta disagree Herd, the SEC has better wins. The thing is we don't have the 4 teams at the bottom pulling the conference down.

If I were to be objective:

1) SEC (barely edges out the Big 10 because of Iowa and Penn State not looking good)

2) Big 10

3) Pac 10

4) Big East

5) Big 12

6) ACC

besides texas, the big 12 isn't any better than the ACC, so that seems fair.  for some reason the pac-10 is always ranked the #1 conference and that baffles me, but this year they actually have a lot of good teams.  it's just that USC isnt as good this year.

Big East is clearly a better conference than the SEC  ;)

Colley Matrix

1. BE

2. B10

3. SEC

4. Pac-10

5. Big 12

6. Acc

7. Independants.  Eat that, MWC.

8. MWC

Here's how Colley does it:

# Each conference is grouped together as one mutual competitive entity.

# All games are then treated as one conference vs. another.

# Intra-conference games are ignored.

# The ratings and rankings are computed by the Colley Matrix method, as usual.

In other words, if you only go by play on the field and disregard margin of victory, these are the objective results.  Mind you, Colley's rankings go up in accuracy dramatically each week as games are played.  However, most of the remaining OOC games are bowls.  Still, there is room for things to switch.
