Construction on Campus

I was on campus yesterday to buy a few things from the bookstore before I fly back to NC today.  I noticed that the circle between the MC and the Special Events Center is now blocked off.  The back part of the Special Events Center is also blocked off (the part where Movies on the Lawn take place).  I'm assuming they are ready to start the construction of the new student union.  For some reason, I thought this wouldn't take place until 2007.  Does anybody have a link to the pictures of the new student union or any other information?  I have seen it before, but I have lost track of when this will happen.

Also, when does the construction start for the new track?

The campus still looks busy with construction, especially the north side (It looks like that parking garage is almost done)

I don't know if I've seen a floor plan or anything, but the Union Slideshow PDF shows pictures and explanations of features they intend to have as seen at other unions across the country (including my current place of business, the Elliott University Center at UNCG).

I'm pretty sure what you saw was construction on the new special events center. I know the sundome has been hostinig orientation b/c the special events center was not available.  Isn't the new student union supposed to go in the same place as the MC?

since i do work in the marshall center, i feel like i should answer these questions.  the construction you saw around the special events center is there because they are getting ready to tear it down.  the new student union will be going in the same place that the special events center is right now, and it will be double what the marshall center is now.  the current marshall center will also be torn down once the new one is built.  the new student union will be open in fall of 2008.  i saw construction equipment by the football practice fields, so maybe they are getting the land ready for a new track or something.  hope this helps.

also inside the current marshall center, there is a display of some ideas they are using for our new one, and tells whats going to be in it, as well as the dates of the construction process

I've discussed the new plans with MC admin... they arn't done moving things around in the new plans... therefore they have not been released yet.  

The exterior is done... but the have not released it either.

I'd be on the look out for the public release of the plans around Sept or Nov...  right after the demo of the SEC.  (My guess)
