They have been a top spending MLB payroll for about the last ten years.  You didnt notice as much because they were paying Bobby Bonilla, Mo Vaughn, Mike PIazza and Tom Glavine all the money and losing, all products of the idiotic mind of Steve Phillips, Omar minaya is the best GM in the game.  Mets will be THE team in NY, while the Yanks will take the back burner.  Devill Rays would be in last place if they were in the NL East.
