Arkansas Hoops Standout Planning To Sign With USF

TAMPA - Solomon Bozeman, a Class 4A all-state point guard from Magnolia, Ark., said Monday he will sign with the University of South Florida.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound Bozeman originally signed with Ole Miss during the November signing period but was granted his release when the school fired Coach Rod Barnes. Bozeman's father, Eric, was an assistant under Barnes for seven seasons before being named coach at Division II Southern Arkansas last season.

Solomon Bozeman said he will sign with USF on Wednesday, the first day of the late signing period. "Coach [Robert] McCullum is a great guy and I feel like we can get to the NCAA Tournament," Bozeman said. "Another big factor was being able to play in the Big East against a lot of great competition."

Bozeman averaged 28 points, three assists and three steals as a senior, leading Magnolia to the Class 4A state final. He was named to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette's All-Arkansas team. As a junior at Oxford (Miss.) High, Bozeman averaged 25.1 points, 6.6 assists, and 4.9 rebounds per game and was named the Oxford Eagle's player of the year.

"The character of the coach was a huge thing," Eric Bozeman said. "Plus, when you leave an opportunity to play in the SEC [at Ole Miss], you don't want to play at a lower level. This year the Big East was certainly the nation's best conference, and you look at [uSF] and the number of close losses. It's easy to see they can turn it around in a short time."

Besides USF, Solomon Bozeman said he also considered Miami, New Mexico, Tulane and Arkansas-Little Rock.
