most people in new tampa are not going to consistently make that drive. if the stadium was in tampa they would in my mind.

I have never agreed with this logic.  Most of the drive is interstate.  A lot of people drive over the bridge to see the Bucs, USF, and Lightning.  Why?  Because they win.  When the Bucs were losing and the Lightning were new, people just didn't want to drive to see a losing team or even non-competitive.  Just like the FootBulls, the Rays have to win over fans.  Newborns have to grow up watching them and become fans.  Just like I did with the Bucs.  Then they will drive from wherever to see a winner.  I have never understood the argument that everything has to be in Tampa to succeed.

dome baseball sucks to.

Now this I do agree with, sort of.  I love the dome on days when it is rainy and I go there and don't have to worry about a rain delay or rainout.  However, I do miss watching baseball outdoors.  I love watching the spring training games at Al Lang and Brighthouse Field.

It really is a stupid argument ........ the Trop is not hard to get to if you really want to go.

Key word phrase there is "spring training". Even though the springs here aren't real spring-like, they are not as brutal as the summers when the Rays play. Dome is only way to go in Florida

Good point Triple.  I wouldn't want to attend those Sunday afternoon games in June/July outside.

Even the evening games would be brutal. Some of those Bucs night pre-season games in August are torture ........... weather-wise, that is.

That new stuff they're using now is nice, though ..... Realistic looking, just need to pump some fresh mown grass smell through the air vents.

It actually feels like grass, kinda cool. I am not a fan of domes for baseball or football, I feel the game was intended to be played outside. However,  in Florida you cannot have a baseball structure that doesn't have some covering and realistically not expect a) massive heartattacks from heat or B) rain outs. (see Miami)

When the Trop was built retractable roofs weren't really cost effiecent like they are now.
