“We can no longer take non-qualifiers in our league and Brandon Myles is a perfect example of a non-qualifier that is going to graduate,†Rodriguez said. “He is going to be a great representative of West Virginia University and the Big East Conference but because of the new rule we can’t get anymore Brandon Myles’ and that’s a shame.†

What Rodriguez is referring to is a school vote by Big East member institutions last fall to no longer accept academic non-qualifiers. That means a prospective football player with an adequate grade point average that fails to earn a qualifying score on either his ACT or SAT will not be permitted to enroll at a Big East school.

I was not aware of this.

This is typical of most of the major conferences I believe.  How would this rule have effected USF's previous recruiting classes?

This will hurt us in recruiting.

i wrote about this in november ...

http://www.sptimes.com/2005/11/30/Sports/Big_East_moves_to_bol.shtml

it will impact USF's league rivals much more than it will USF.

Yes it's not true in CUSA, but you know that of course. ;)

It wouldn't matter for UCF regardless.  We don't take non-qualifiers.

And in all reality, teams should not.

If you can not qualify, you should not be in these colleges because of athletics.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

“This is not a broken football program by any means. It just needs to be united, to get everybody on the same page, share that same vision, and really to have that standard - best is the standard.”
