Yall have to understand Matt said he is not changing his mind and was a USF commit and thats it, no changing his mind......now I cant tell you the phone calls and visits tring to get him to change his mind. The visit at the school from Zook (Fla at the time) Uconn same thing but he told all these schools that he was a very very solid USF commit and word travels....so they all laid off after it got almost bothersome at times. But south carolina...Penn St. Ill. Indy, bowling green, wake forest, Florida, aurburn, clemson, cuse, N.C State, and alot more all tried like hell to get him to change his mind but no go and I respect him for that. Lets hope we made the right choice, we will know after spring where he stands. As far as smazza saying he could not beat out PJ last year that was not even an option. The red shirt was going to happen and last the whole season. Thats the way Matt wanted it so he could learn the system and get used to the college life. And boys he has done both and is ready to show why he is here!!!

Flip,  I can't wait either, I've been behind MG when we were recruiting MG and CHill and everyone went on and on about Hill. Matt got nowhere near the press hill got.  I'm going to love saying to smaz and the rest of the naysayers.......not to be 3rd graderish, but told you so.  Of course you and I could end up eating crow.........  I HIGHLY doubt that.

Flip also a couple of ???'s  How geeked is Matt for practice to start?  Also, we will get to see a lot of him a the spring game right?

he couldnt beat out pj last year

lets see if he can beat pj and hill out

He never had the option to beat them out, he was redshirted, and there was no plan on burning it.  However, as you said, we shall see what his mettle is this year.

And we know that when a kid is an early commit, rating services stop giving stars also ... if you have ever seen him play - an entire game, not just highlights - you will be very happy to have him as your general.

The biggest obstacle IMO would be the # of QBs we have ...

Hill will most likely get the bulk of the reps.

Julmiste would be a close 2nd of course ...

GrothE, Gregory and Servino will be battling for reps.

Gregory was also a top state QB and commited early and did not get publicity either.

Most important is that USF has a QB that is a clear #1 coming out of the Spring !

Matt is sooo ready to get after it in the spring.

Why would Matt , with the talent he has even still be in the mix? I mean the coaches had a whole year to look at him and if they thought he did not have a shot he would be playing somewhere else I mean with 4.59 speed and can read a offence or defence like he can I mean cmon. Now as I have said before Matts style of play, the type of high school teams he played and played for, and the smarts he has for football will push him to the top. If you cant remmember the plays or cant read a defence, what good are you?

I have heard that there are 3 for the spot Grothe, Hill, and PJ now we have seen 2 of them and well IMHO if Matt hold on to the ball , hits over 60% of his passes, and showes his mobility, its clear cut!!  all the talking is over now its time to prove it on the field!!

Agree that PJ shows he is not our #1 guy and C4 showed nothing special as a QB.

Agree that GrothE is a football brain. You saw a kid that read the field and made great decisions -  he made things happen! I njoyed watching him play top teams.

Can not forget about Gregory either, looking farther - 2007 could be GrothE & Gregory if C4 does not pan out at QB.

May the best man win ... and be a WINNER for USF.

Go BULLS !!!

Do have a question Flip...

On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the arm strength of Matt now?

On many passes in HS, I saw a very sharp passer - similiar to what USF had with Blackwell. How far would you say his Deep Ball is ?
