building a dominating football team that plays in bcs game will give usf more recognition than a float

even a championship basketball or baseball team would do the trick

making usf football family friendly would do more than a usf float twice a year

You want to put the cart before the horse, in order to build a dominating football team you need recruits, to get the best recruits you need a top notch program (facilities, coaches, stadium filled with loyal fans, name recognition around the country) to work towards this level you need money, to get money you need alumni and corps willing to pay, the more the school gets buzz the more alumni and corps will want to get involved. So building a float after 50 years of being in a town that has a parade that is 100 years old and has had an Outback bowl float with Gators on it for several years is a step in the right direction smazza. It would be great to win a championship in the next year, also to cure cancer and world hunger and drive on mars.

Nah -- smazza has it right.

You win first, then people come.  Not sure why people on this board don't understand that concept.

It is not the other way around.  People don't support losers, they don't support young up and coming teams.  When they drop 25 bucks for a ticket they want to see their team win.  It's that simple.

Everyone complains about how nobody comes to the basekball games.  They suck.  Does anyone really think that somebody is going to drop 25 dollars for a ticket plus a drink and some food to go see a team that is not going to even sniff a conference title --- alone a conference win.

Win and they will come, its that simple.  As for the football team, continue to win and they will come.  The football teams problem is that stadium.  ZERO atmosphere.  Too big for our britches.  I guess you have to work with what you got.

WOuld be nice to see a 50K seat on-campus stadium.  It would surely provide more atmosphere.  But I guess we are years away from having the money.
