TAMPA - Chamberlain wide receiver Edner Alcin, one of the state's fastest recruits, and Panama City Bay offensive lineman Jeremiah Warren verbally committed to the University of South Florida.

Alcin (6-1, 177) had the second fastest 40-yard dash (4.44) among the wide receivers at the Tallahassee Nike training camp in May. He also played in the FACA North-South all-star game.

"He's going to be great," Chamberlain coach Billy Turner said. "He's one of the fastest kids in the state. He can really run and catch a football."

A Class 3A all-state honorable mention defensive lineman, Warren (6-3, 320) will be moved to guard or center at USF.

"He has a tremendous wingspan, real long arms," Bay coach Mike Healy said. "He's a tough guy. He has a chance to be an outstanding offensive lineman."

Warren was recruited by UCF, Memphis, Southern Miss and Ole Miss. Warren also is wrestling as a heavyweight for Bay (he's undefeated) and also throws the shot put and discus on the track team.

"USF paid so much attention to him, the coaches visited all the time," Healy said. "They seemed to really want him bad and it showed up. He felt like they really wanted him. He's not just another body."

6' 3" 320 that is an run stopper up the middle

why the change to offense?

on the other hand can we say pancakes all over the place

i hope he excels

and grade issues with these two?

question: which is better... go after 4star players with questionable grades (may or may not get to the team) or solid 3star players with good grades you can count on to be there when fall comes around?

Good points size and heart matters as well as talent. Both of these guys seem to have those.

Don't know about the grades but the issue hasn't been raised.

Guest Josh Newberg

he's not 6-3 310, that was his playing weight.  Right now he is 275.  Talked to him tonight about it.

why the change to offense?

cause we dont have that kind of defense. our defense if very similar to the Bucs, personel wise. Smallish, quick lineman...FAST LBs...big hitter in the defensive backfield, and usually good tackling.

6'3 320 as a FRESHMAN says that this kid is exactly what our OLine needs as we move up the ladder in college football. BEEF.

We definitely need a WR that can catch. (see Peyton,Johnny, et al.) Now, if only we had somebody who could throw....
