Leavitt Worried About RBs

Published: Apr 1, 2004

TAMPA - Because of injuries this spring, South Florida coach Jim Leavitt said the Bulls' running back position wouldn't be settled until the fall.

``The running back situation is not that good,'' Leavitt said. ``That's why we signed a junior-college back [Andre Hall] and all those [high school] running backs [Ricky Ponton, Chad Simpson, Terrance Jones and Andre Copeland]. It's been the most disappointing position this spring.''

The Bulls lost junior Billy Henderson (torn ACL and MCL), who will miss the 2004 season, and senior Clenton Crossley has been slowed by a shoulder injury.

While depth at running back has been decimated, Leavitt said sophomore QB Pat Julmiste is showing improvement from last season.

Julmiste, who Leavitt named starter last week because senior Ronnie Banks has been slow recovering from knee surgery, is ``doing some good things.''

``I feel he's better than last year, but he's not there yet,'' Leavitt said. ``We've sure given him a lot of reps.''

Agree with Smazza.  Great running backs can't run through walls (although Jim Brown came the closest that I ever saw).  Injuries are slowing them down, plus they are running up against a very good D.

ET's post is two years old as well.  I guess LOB just wanted to yank some chains.

Last I checked the scoreboard doesn't have a spot for current bank balance on it.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
