Hey all, I run a USF sports page on Instagram @getliveusf. I want to post a graphic highlighting the 5 biggest or most iconic rivalry series in USF sports history, but I’m a current student so I wasn’t following the Bulls for most of their history.

I imagine it would be some mix of central fl, WVU, Cincinnati, Louisville, Syracuse, UConn, etc. but I wanted to consult the *ahem* more life-experienced Bulls fans.

What does your list look like? Thanks in advance.

Without too much thought-reinforcing research, what comes to mind for me:

  • USF - WVU football mid 2000s
  • USF - UL football 2000s
  • USF-UAB 80-90s basketball
  • USF-Charlotte 80-90s basketball
  • USF-Central FL (forced, mid 2010s)

I'm sure sailing has rivalries, but didn't follow

We've not really had any lengthy rivalries, hence the 5th bullet point.  It was a way to put us in a box.

I agree with West Virginia football, Charlotte Basketball and the heralded 'War on I-4 (unless lanes are blocked, then you can take 92 westbound to 17).

Other than those three, I don't think there's real 'rivalry' material - if we're just excluding conference opponents.

Football wise just two for me. West Virginia and UCF. I suspect FAU will become one over the next few years.

A shame we dont play Tulane and Memphis every year since that could become a rivalry as well once we get better.

I dunno. If we're reaching that far into the way-back machine, we need to think in terms of what constitutes a rivalry.

We're one-and-one with Jimmy Mads, and that goes back to 2000...twenty-three years ago. Not sure I'd paint them with the rivalry brush. If we do, we might as well include San Diego State, Ball State or Middle Tennessee.

Now that I think about it, we could add Southern Miss to the rivalry list. :iconic_u_black:

Football biased but actual rivalries…I only think of 3:

-UCF

-WV

-Any of the big 3 FL schools whenever we play them

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
