If there is no interest from fans, then I guess there’s no need for sportswriters to cover. Just need one guy to cover the Lightning and Bucs (but only when they’re winning). It does bring make me question the wisdom of these types of posts from the local newspaper, I mean in the interest of building readership. Constantly blasting the teams you cover seems like it's shooting yourself in the foot.

That difference and the size of our metro area would allow USF to distribute far more tickets than most other AAC teams. So although everyone may be misleading, the extent to which USF can fudge their numbers is far greater. It’s much easier to say 29k in attendance in a 65k stadium when 10k show up than it is in a 35k stadium. I’m just happy to see some transparency so I can stop reading things like: -our current games are sellouts in the new OCS -the game wasn’t really empty, everyone was in the club suites Fudging ….smh. USF has the luxury of trying to expose as many as possible to Bulls football by giving away free tickets and they take advantage of it ….. and this is some type of conspiracy. 1

I'd say that's a fair assessment. It's the dinero that makes the machine operate, a nice wide shot on the tee-vee is just a bonus. It's nice to be able to market the game-day experience when you're trying to sell tickets, however. In an ideal world, you'd sell out every seat in the venue - and have a waiting list - with a packed stadium to show off to the visiting dignitaries. So until that day, we will adhere to the previously agreed upon ticket metric for external consumption. FAU is instate and has a much bigger student population. Maybe we'll see some FAU fans.

There must be something I am not aware of. I would think that representing at your school's tailgates and games would be a priority. I do not know the behavior of the current crop of frat boys, but when I was at USF they were an odd bunch. They cared more about their fraternity than they did USF. They would go out of their way for their "charity drives" to make their fraternity look good, but show up at basketball games? Only if the game was on national TV. Who controls the media, controls the mind. And once the stadium is in place, that control rests squarely in U of SF's hands.
