I'm going to respectfully disagree.  I would have said that about St. Pete a couple years ago, but Tampa has now closed the gap.  It's just a bit more spread out.  So many bars and restaurants on, or a short walk from the Riverwalk and streetcar line, Water Street, Sparkman, etc.  The Rays should be in Ybor at the end of the channel.

I hope you guys are right.  Tampa has improved but was just in St Pete for first Friday and there was a very very good ACDC cover band playing for free in jannus landing, there was another band playing on Central.  The restaurants were packed.

Yes I agree. And I’m not saying that as anything against St Pete as I think that area is great too regarding nightlife. I’m saying it because the new stadium should be more centrally located. Heck a new Rays stadium by the casino would work too.  Eventually Tampa Bay will have a rail system that will help connect all areas since it is pretty spread out. The new Howard Franklin Bridge will have a spot for the future rail system.

I take a boat over to St Pete for the Rays games & i know what you mean. That area blew up & is amazing so I get it. Tampa is getting there as they see the success across the bay imo

Yea, way too spread out.  A light rail would be a hug benefit to the area.  A USF to channelside/downtown would even make me rethink how much USF's offcampus nightlife sucks.

Hopefully the USF OCS helps improve night life. I believe they said there were going to be restaurants, bars, shops just outside the OCS. Plus I plan on staying on campus Friday through Sunday during home USF games so I will do my part to help the night life lol

Nightlife around campus has been in decline for years.

Younger fans won't know these names:

Empty keg

Greenery

The Claw restaurant (really)

CDB's

Copper Top

Montana's

Kasey's Cove

Bennigans

Fridays

The Brickyard (I think that was the name, current Acropolis)

All those places at one point in time were around campus and drew in students, all gone.

The only improvement, Mr Dunderbaks moving from the mall to their current location.

Heck yeah I remember most of those places. Peabody’s  was fun too. Bulls Club. Gumby’s Pizza. The OCS should help improve the nightlife imo.

Yeah, Peabody's is still hanging in there, but I can add Goodfellas to the list, it was in the same plaza as Peabody's and long gone.

I remember the name Bulls Club, but don't think I ever went there.

I have a great Gumby's story back around 1997, I was working on my MBA, that particular year we had lots of French exchange students in the MBA program. 6 person group project, where we would meet and work for 20 minutes, followed by 2 hours of drinking. We order Gumby's, the delivery person is from Haiti, the French students go wild because he looks like Yannick Noah. They invite him to come in and drink with us. He abandons his deliveries and brings in all the pizzas in his car and stays for hours, right in the middle of his shift.

This was all back in my day, too.

I think the rising popularity of Ybor city at the time ruined it.  We used to hang out at these places around campus, and then everybody started going to ybor.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
