i just saw something on them just before 10 am.. it was on the topic of which mediorce team has the ability to really mess up a BCS game, which they pointed at USF running the table if they beat the conference favorite WVA

Every conference has teams that one could call a BCS nightmare if they were to win....  for one reason or another... but that is how all the conferences wanted the system.  Can you imagine if Kansas somehow won the Big XII title game?  or Vanderbilt?  

If they want to change the system, change it... make a playoff, but you will always run the risk of someone winning a conference that you might not initially expect.  All it means is that team played well and won the spot, and the media darlings didn't.

Why is the  underdogso revered in the NCAA basketball season and tournaments yet so feared/reviled in NCAA football?  

The NCAA tourney generatesa lot of TV revenue based on the fact that people want to see the Cinderella teams upset the goliaths.  Us making the Sugar Bowl would be equivalent to one of the Cinderellas making the Elite 8.  ITS WHAT COLLEGE SPORTS IS ALL ABOUT!!

Beastie, I think it has to do with money. The powers that be probably think that "smaller" school wouldn't travel as well for one. Also, in the tourney, games are viewed as part of a greater whole, whereas the bowl games are each independant of one another. I don't really know. I sort of wondered the same thing myself and that it all I could think of.
